Comedian Ali Wong has shown off her love of Avatar: The Last Airbender with a fantastic Toph Beifong cosplay. Voiced by Jessie Flower in the original series, Toph was introduced early on in Avatar season 2 and has remained one of the most popular characters in the entire franchise ever since. She also has a couple of cameos throughout The Legend of Korra, where she’s voiced by both Kate Higgins and Philece Sampler.

Though she enters the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender much later than other major characters like Aang, Zuko, Katara, Sokka, and Iroh, Toph is frequently in contention for the most beloved character in the entire franchise. Her no-nonsense attitude, wry sense of humor, and sheer bending power – arguably the greatest in the entire series aside from the Avatar – have made her an enduring favorite through the years. As such, Toph is a popular pick for fan art and cosplays, with many Avatar lovers wanting to celebrate her as their favorite character.

Apparently, Ali Wong – best known for her standup comedy, movies like Always Be My Maybe, and TV shows like Tuca & Bertie – falls into that category of diehard Toph fans. In a recent Instagram post, Wong shared a picture of herself in full Toph cosplay, with the caption “October is coming Twinkle Toes” both alluding to the closeness of Halloween and referencing Toph’s nickname for Aang in the show. Avatar: The Last Airbender co-creator Bryan Konietzko even reshared Wong’s post himself.

From head to toe, Wong’s Toph costume looks fantastic. Like the Avatar: The Last Airbender character, she sports bare feet in the picture – a trademark of Toph’s as she uses her seismic sense to see her surroundings. Specifically, Wong’s costume is Toph’s season 2 outfit, which later changes when Team Avatar goes undercover in the Fire Nation in season 3. Season 2 Toph’s outfit is certainly her most iconic, however, and Wong wears it well.

With Netflix’s live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender series on the way, Toph’s classic look may be getting an official real-world variant soon. Of course, since Toph doesn’t appear until Avatar season 2, that could still be a while. Toph could also return in animated form in one of the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender stories from Nickelodeon’s Avatar Studios. Until then, fans like Wong are clearly happy to keep the fires burning until Toph’s next onscreen appearance. Maybe Wong could even take a turn voicing Toph sometime in the future, bringing her love of the character to the canonical world of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
