Venom: Let There Be Carnage is the second movie from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe but definitely not the last, and along with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s bringing a lot more movies from Spider-Man’s universe after Venom’s second solo adventure – and here’s every upcoming movie. The superhero genre has been dominated by two connected universes from the two biggest comic book publishers, but Marvel Comics has made way for two worlds that even though have operated separately, are now starting to merge: the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe.

It all started with a deal between Sony and Marvel that allows Spider-Man to be part of the MCU while also appearing in Sony’s universe, though that hasn’t really happened yet. Instead, Sony has been hard at work building its own universe of Spider-Man characters, starting in 2018 with Venom, directed by Ruben Fleischer, and introducing Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock/Venom. Meanwhile, the MCU continued its course and brought Spider-Man (now played by Tom Holland) back for a couple more adventures after his debut in Captain America: Civil War, appearing in two solo movies and Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

The third Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, will open the gates to the multiverse, bringing villains from Sony’s past Spider-Man movies into Holland’s world, so all eyes are on this and all future movies related to the web-slinger. Speculation about the future of the Spider-verse and expectation over crossovers have only grown after the release of the trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home and Venom: Let There Be Carnage hitting theaters, and luckily, there are many movies from Spider-Man’s universe lined up for the not-so-distant future – here’s every one of them and when they will be released.

Spider-Man: No Way Home – December 17, 2021

Spider-Man is coming back with a third solo movie, titled Spider-Man: No Way Home. After Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) revealed Spider-Man’s identity to the world and framed him for his murder at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Peter will now have to deal with the consequences of having his biggest secret exposed. Spider-Man: No Way Home will see the young hero looking for help to handle this situation, and with his mentor, Tony Stark, now gone, Peter will ask Doctor Strange for help to make everyone forget he’s Spider-Man. Doctor Strange will agree and will cast a spell to do just what Peter wants, but it won’t go according to plan, and they will further mess with the fabric of time and space. This will make way for the arrival of villains from previous Spider-Man movies, such as Electro (Jamie Foxx) and Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina). Spider-Man: No Way Home, then, will be key in the MCU’s Phase 4, as its central theme so far has been the multiverse and its potential dangers.

Morbius – January 28, 2022

On Sony’s side, the next movie after Venom: Let There Be Carnage is Morbius, directed by Daniel Espinosa. Morbius will introduce the audience to Michael Morbius (Jared Leto), a scientist suffering from a rare blood disease, and on his quest to find a cure, he ends up exposing himself to a strange experiment involving bats. As a result, Morbius becomes afflicted with a form of vampirism and gains superhuman abilities, but none of the weaknesses generally associated with vampires. Morbius was the first movie from Sony’s universe to confirm its link to the MCU by revealing the presence of Adrian Toomes/Vulture (Michael Keaton) in its first trailer, along with a poster of Spider-Man on the street which raised many questions on which version is it, as many fans pointed out it’s a poster of Tobey Maguire’s incarnation.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2 – October 7, 2022

In 2018, Sony brought the first animated movie in the Spider-Man franchise. Titled Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, it was the audience’s first trip into the multiverse, though one called “Spider-Verse”, in which Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) becomes Spider-Man and joins other versions of the character from other universes to save New York City from the Kingpin. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse was a big critical and commercial success, and went on to win Best Animated Feature at the 91st Academy Awards, so it was only natural that a sequel was greenlit. Sony confirmed the sequel in November 2019, with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller returning as producers, as well as Shameik Moore reprising his role as Miles Morales, Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker, Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, and Issa Rae as Jessica Drew.

Kraven the Hunter – January 13, 2023

A movie starring Kraven the Hunter was one of the projects teased when The Amazing Spider-Man universe was still active, and he was one of the villains planned to appear in the long-awaited Sinister Six movie, but with the cancellation of The Amazing Spider-Man 3 came the cancellation of most spinoffs. However, the Kraven the Hunter project was picked up again and announced in 2018 as part of Sony’s plans for its Marvel universe, and in 2020, J.C. Chandor joined as director, with Matt Holloway arriving to rewrite the script. In May 2021, Aaron Taylor-Johnson was cast as Kraven, marking his second Marvel role after playing Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and so Kraven the Hunter was given a January 2023 release date.

Spider-Women – TBA

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is also making way for a spin-off centered on three generations of female Spider-related characters, and thus referred to as Spider-Women. The story would reportedly include Spider-Gwen (voiced in Into the Spider-Verse by Hailee Steinfeld), Jessica Drew (Issa Rae), and Cindy Moon/Silk. There have been no updates on the Spider-Women spinoff since Bek Smith was announced as screenwriter, but there are no reasons to believe the project has been left aside.

Olivia Wilde’s Untitled Spider-Man Universe Movie – TBA

In August 2020, it was announced that Olivia Wilde had signed on to develop and direct a female-centric Marvel movie for Sony with her writing partner Katie Silberman (Booksmart, Don’t Worry Darling). No more details have been announced since, but the project is said to be a high priority at Sony, and it’s rumored to feature Spider-Woman.

The Sinister Six – TBA

Another project that was left aside when The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was canceled and the Sony/Marvel deal happened was The Sinister Six. The arrival of this team of villains was teased at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and it would have been formed by Rhino, Vulture, Doctor Octopus, Mysterio, and Kraven, with the Green Goblin serving as the leader, but the project was left behind once Sony moved on to other projects. In December 2018, producer Amy Pascal confirmed the studio still intends to make The Sinister Six happen with Drew Goddard’s script (as he was originally attached to direct), and while the project hasn’t been confirmed yet, Sony and Marvel have already set this team up with the introduction of many villains known for being part of the Sinister Six in the comics, so it’s only a matter of waiting for Sony to officially announce it and give it a release date.

Tom Holland’s Next MCU Team-Up Movie – TBA

All 12 SpiderMan Universe Movies Releasing After Venom 2 (& When)

The original Sony/Marvel deal fell through in 2019, and after a couple of weeks of speculation and more, both studios reached a brand new deal that allowed Holland’s Spider-Man to stay in the MCU for a bit longer, but that brought changes to Holland’s contract. The new Sony/Marvel deal keeps Holland around for two more movies, one of those being Spider-Man: No Way Home and the other a mystery Marvel movie that could very well be a crossover. With this version of Spider-Man being allowed to be in both the MCU and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, this could be the movie that finally sees Peter Parker meeting Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy), but nothing is confirmed yet and these plans could change at any moment, just like the original Sony/Marvel deal.

Other Spider-verse Projects

While some projects like Kraven the Hunter and The Sinister Six have been picked up, there are others that remain in limbo and it’s unknown if they will happen or if they will be canceled. First is Jackpot, announced in August 2018 and with the latest update being that Marc Guggenheim, writer of Jackpot comic books, was working on the screenplay for the movie in May 2020. Then was Madame Web, with Sony hiring Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless in September 2019 to write the script and S.J. Clarkson joining as director in May 2020, but there haven’t been any updates on the project since then. Last but not least is an untitled project by Roberto Orci, announced in March 2020 and said to be based on a property “from a different corner of the Marvel universe that Sony has access to” and not one affiliated with Spider-Man, but still as part of Sony’s universe.

Will Venom 3 Happen?

The future of Venom after Venom: Let There Be Carnage is uncertain, but there’s hope for Eddie and the symbiote coming back after what the second movie established. Tom Hardy has said that a third Venom movie won’t be greenlit until Let There Be Carnage proves to be successful, while director Andy Serkis already has plans for the return of an iconic location in Venom 3. Venom: Let There Be Carnage definitely leaves the door open for a third movie and more, and if it all goes according to plan in terms of box office numbers and more, it probably won’t take long for Sony to confirm Venom 3 as part of its plans for the future of its Spider-Man universe.
