All 142 Characters Who Died In Snowpiercer Season 2

Snowpiercer season 2 had an epic body count as 142 characters are known to have died, including a few major characters. TNT’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi series wrapped up with huge cliffhangers as Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) shockingly appears to be among the dead, thanks to Mr. Wilford (Sean Bean) deliberately sabotaging her rendezvous with Snowpiercer and leaving her outside in the Freeze. However, Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) led a small group of rebels to steal the Eternal Engine and break apart from Snowpiercer, creating a 10-car pirate train of their own.

Snowpiercer is no stranger to death since the entire premise of the series begins with billions on Earth dying after a climate catastrophe plunged the world into an Ice Age. Only 3,000 survivors made it onto the 1,001-car-long super train designed by Melanie, who then stole the vessel from Mr. Wilford, leaving him stranded in Chicago. But even Snowpiercer’s departure was marred by violence and death as hundreds of desperate refugees swarmed the train. While many were murdered by the Jackboots, 400 managed to become stowaways, living in squalor in Snowpiercer’s Tail section for seven years until Layton led a revolution to give the Tailies equality with the passengers in the other classes. Not long after Layton’s revolution ended with Andre running Snowpiercer, Mr. Wilford emerged from the cold aboard Big Alice, a 40-car supply train carrying 100 passengers. Wilford permanently docked with Snowpiercer and, by the end of season 2, the billionaire Messiah completed his takeover of his Great Ark Train.

Incredibly, Snowpiercer season 2’s deaths are actually lower than season 1’s. The population of 3,000 aboard Snowpiercer was cut down to 2,700 after season 1’s wars were over, and the losses took a heavy toll on the surviving passengers, especially Bess Till (Mickey Sumner), the new Train Detective. Snowpiercer season 2 also included information and even flashbacks to events that happened before season 1, but that death toll will be counted as part of season 2. Additionally, Snowpiercer is no stranger to apparently killing off major characters and then having them miraculously turn up alive, so not every death in Snowpiercer season 2 may be permanent.

One of the biggest revelations of Snowpiercer season 2 is that the Earth is naturally warming; Melanie Cavill proved this during a fateful solo mission at the Breslauer Research Station in the Rocky Mountains, where she encountered frozen corpses and survived by eating an unknown number of rats to extinction. Melanie’s belief that “the future is outside” of the super train was true, and Snowpiercer season 3 will likely determine just how many of the remnants of the human race will survive to see that future. In the meantime, here is everyone known to have died in Snowpiercer season 2.

6 Geneticists And 6 Family Members

Snowpiercer season 2, episode 6, “Many Miles From Snowpiercer” was an exceptional hour focused on Melanie’s solo mission that also featured flashbacks to before the Freeze. The flashbacks showed the happier times when Melanie and Mr. Wilford were a team celebrating the completion of Snowpiercer’s Eternal Engine. But soon, their relationship evaporated as Cavill realized Wilford intended to impose an authoritarian state centering on himself aboard Snowpiercer. Another point of contention was Wilford refusing to allow Melanie’s 12 geneticists aboard the train, grudgingly limiting her to 6. But on the night Snowpiercer departed Chicago, Wilford ordered the Jackboots to gun down the geneticists and their loved ones instead of letting them aboard Snowpiercer. This was the final straw that motivated Melanie to steal the train and leave Wilford behind.

100 People On Big Alice

All 142 Characters Who Died In Snowpiercer Season 2

Even after Snowpiercer and Big Alice combined into a 1,034-cars-long super train, Mr. Wilford severely limited his people’s contact with the main train and the passengers of Big Alice were forbidden to discuss how many people were aboard Big Alice. In Snowpiercer season 2, episode 9, “The Show Must Go On”, Alexandra Cavill (Rowan Blanchard) spilled the beans on exactly why no one from Big Alice was ever to say why only 100 people are aboard: A year after Big Alice departed, Wilford had 100 of the train’s 200 passengers executed. Joseph culled his people by half in order to “preserve resources”, and Wilford plans the same for Snowpiercer as well.

At Least 8 In Snowpiercer Vs. Big Alice Fight

After Big Alice docked with Snowpiercer in season 2’s premiere, “The Time of Two Engines”, tensions mounted at the border between the two trains. Andre Layton’s army made a play to kidnap Wilford’s Head of Hospitality, Kevin McMahon (Tom Lipinski), that escalated into violence – until Wilford’s cold monster, Icy Bob (Andre Tricoteux) arrived. Icy Bob singlehandedly turned the tide, breaching the train to let the extremely cold air in, and killing enemies with one blow. By the end of the bloody melee, 8 people died on-screen, although the actual body count may be higher.

Terence

Terence, Snowpiercer’s Head of Janitorial who was a personal hire of Mr. Wilford’s, was one of the most powerful people in Third Class. Terence ran the train’s underground black market and drug trade. In Snowpiercer season 2, Terence wanted a huge cut of the marijuana smuggling pipeline created by Pike (Steven Ogg) under the auspices of Andre Layton. As Terence put the squeeze on Pike, he also threatened to expose Josie Wellstead (Katie McGuinness), who was Layton’s spy aboard Big Alice. Pike then murdered Terence on Layton’s orders, but he also paid a heavy price emotionally. Terence’s position as Head of Janitorial was then usurped by John Osweiller (Sam Otto).

8 Breachmen

When Lights (Miranda Edwards) was attacked and maimed, suspicion fell on the Breachmen, who were Wilford loyalists. The Breachmen were innocent of that crime but, in Snowpiercer season 2, episode 5, “Keep Hope Alive”, 8 of the train’s 9 Breachmen were murdered in a conspiracy to restore Mr. Wilford back in power aboard Snowpiercer. Bojan “Boki” Boscovich (Aleks Paunovic) was the only Breachman left alive and Bess Till was named Train Detective by Layton to solve the murders.

Pastor Logan

Pastor Logan (Bryan Terrell Clark) was a new character introduced in Snowpiercer season 2. Logan ran the Tea Room, which served as a memorial for everyone who died during the Snowpiercer wars. But the Pastor was also secretly a Wilford sympathizer and he was behind the conspiracy to have the Breachmen murdered, which was blamed on the Tailies, in order to undermine Andre Layton and pave the way for Mr. Wilford to return to power. In Snowpiercer season 2, episode 7, “Our Answer For Everything”, Bess Till uncovered Pastor Logan’s treachery and they came to blows before Logan died by Lung of Ice.

Icy Bob fulfilled the purpose he was created for in Snowpiercer season 2, episode 8, “The Eternal Engineer”. When Mr. Wilford made his play to take control of Snowpiercer, he sent Icy Bob to walk the ten miles of the train in order to sabotage the Eternal Engine. Despite Icy Bob’s cold immunity, he was exposed to the Freeze for too long and poor Bob perished on the operating table of his doctors, the Headwoods. Meanwhile, Josie proved to miraculously possess an even greater degree of cold resistance and she took Icy Bob’s place as the train’s new “cold woman”.

The 8 Murderers Of The Breachmen

In Snowpiercer season 2, episode 9, “The Show Must Go On”, Mr. Wilford made a reluctant Bess Till his new advisor. But the billionaire villain immediately disgusted the ex-Brakeman by revealing that he had all 8 murders of the Breachmen apprehended and lined up to be executed via Lung of Ice. Despite Bess arguing against capital punishment for these people who did Wilford’s bidding, Joseph murdered them all anyway. While she wasn’t visible in the scene, Eugenia (Amanda Brugel), a First Class passenger who Till apprehended as one of the Breachmen’s killers, was one of the conspirators Wilford executed.

Javier de la Torre?

Javi was often the conscience of Engineering but Mr. Wilford liked him enough to transfer him to Big Alice as Alex’s replacement as Engineer. However, Mr. Wilford underestimated Javier’s loyalty to Snowpiercer, Layton, and Melanie. In Snowpiercer season 2, episode 10, “Into the White”, Javi was instrumental in getting Layton and Ruth out of Big Alice’s Compost Car so they could take back Snowpiercer. But for his treachery, Wilford had poor Javi beaten by the Jackboots before he sicced his pitbull, Jupiter, on the Engineer. It’s not clear if Javi survived his ordeal or not.

Bojan “Boki” Boscovic?

All 142 Characters Who Died In Snowpiercer Season 2

Boki had a remarkable turnaround in Snowpiercer season 2’s final episodes. The steadfast Wilford loyalist felt betrayed when he learned the billionaire sabotaged his own Eternal Engine and was behind the murders of his fellow Breachmen. By the end of Snowpiercer season 2, Breachman Boscovich was firmly on Layton’s side to “make coup” against Wilford. Boki tried to uncouple the J-link beneath the Aquarium Car to separate Layton’s ten-car pirate train. However, Boki was attacked by the Jackboots before he could finish his job. Even if Boki managed to survive the Jackboots, he may have been killed by the explosion that destroyed the Aquarium Car.

Melanie Cavill?

The most shocking death of Snowpiercer season 2 was Melanie Cavill herself. Left behind by Snowpiercer thanks to Mr. Wilford’s sabotage, Cavill desperately returned to the Breslauer Research Station, even though it was no longer livable. As Layton and Alex found out days later, Melanie left behind her data drives and a journal for her daughter before she “walked into the white” to die. However, Melanie’s body was never found so there’s not 100% certainty the ingenious Head Engineer is truly dead. Further, Jennifer Connelly is confirmed to return for Snowpiercer season 3, although it may be in a limited capacity like season 2, so there’s no guarantee Melanie will make a full-fledged comeback alive and well. For now, fans have to accept that Snowpiercer’s heroine and series lead character is indeed gone (at least for now).
