All 34 Deaths In Halloween Kills

David Gordon Green’s Halloween Kills featured a lot of deaths at the hands of Michael Myers. It’s no surprise a slasher franchise like Halloween would amass a high body count, but Michael’s numerous kills certainly earned the film its title in a major way. In fact, the post-opening credits scene featuring Michael’s escape from the fiery blaze set to kill him in 2018’s Halloween made clear Michael was at the top of his murderous game – and no one was safe.

The sequel to 2018’s Halloween featured returning characters not just from the preceding film but from the original 1978 movie, too. Calling back to the survivor empowerment themes of Green’s Halloween, Halloween Kills portrays returning characters Tommy (Anthony Michael Hall), Lindsey (Kyle Richards), Marion (Nancy Stephens), and Lonnie (Robert Longstreet) as friends connected by tragedy who seek out their boogeyman of 40 years to end his reign of terror once and for all. In fact, seemingly all of Haddonfield rose up against Myers this go around, to admittedly mixed results.

The one character who shockingly never seemed in jeopardy of being added to Michael’s kill list? Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) herself. Disappointingly, Laurie barely got out of bed in this film as she recovered from wounds inflicted in the first. Presumably that was to give her time to recuperate for threequel Halloween Ends, however rumors of a time jump suggest that might not be the case. Regardless, plenty of characters familiar and new met their maker, thanks in part to Michael Myers, who’s inspired by a true story. The following are all 34 deaths from Halloween Kills, in chronological order.

1. Officer McCabe

All 34 Deaths In Halloween Kills

The opening of Halloween Kills picked up from the events of 2018’s Halloween as Cameron (Dylan Arnold) – Allyson’s (Andi Matichak) boyfriend – stumbled across the wounded form of Officer Hawkins (Will Patton) laying in the middle of the street. Hawkins was stabbed by Michael’s doctor in the preceding film and wants it made clear he should be the one to kill Michael Myers. Before Cameron can get help for Hawkins, the officer flashed back to the reason for his personal investment in stopping Myers.

On Halloween of 1978 – when the first-ever Halloween film took place and Michael Myers was originally called the Shape – a young Hawkins (Thomas Mann) and fellow officer, McCabe (Jim Cummings), investigated the original Myers house when searching for Michael after his murderous actions early that night. McCabe commented on how all he could remember about Michael as children was how he would stand at his sister’s window, looking out onto the streets of Haddonfield. While the significance of that observation came into play multiple times during Halloween Kills, it turned out to be McCabe’s last. When he stood in that exact same spot, Michael lunged at him, intent on killing his childhood friend. Hawkins raced in and tried to stop Michael but ended up shooting McCabe in the carotid artery instead. McCabe bled out on the floor as Hawkins tried to reassure his partner he got Michael, too.

2-12. Firefighters

Following Hawkins’ flashback, Halloween Kills returned to the blaze set at the end of Halloween and its immediate aftermath. Laurie, her daughter Karen (Judy Greer), and granddaughter Allyson rode to the hospital on the back of a pick-up truck when Laurie heard sirens from fire trucks racing to respond to and she screamed for them to let it burn. If only they could have heard her.

After two firefighters inside the burning house died at Michael’s hands while searching for survivors, it would have been understandable to think he’d then slip out the back, disappearing into the shadows. But, as if he anticipated that expectation, Green instead went straight for a showcase of how deadly Myers really is. Still in his mask, Michael Myers exited the burning house and was confronted by nine firefighters waiting outside. Michael killed every single one of them in brutal fashion, none coming close to taking him down. A cop and 11 firefighters were dead before Michael even left the grounds of Laurie’s house where 2018’s Halloween ended.

13-16. Sondra & Phil (& Two Unknown Others)

After he escaped the fire, Michael went on a murderous rampage, steadily making his way back to his former childhood home. While the movie depicted the deaths of Sondra & Phil, a couple whose home Michael invaded to evade detection, it’s revealed on the news later that 4 people were killed on that street, unfortunate neighbors in the masked Michael Myers’ path at the wrong time.

What was shown of Sondra and Phil’s demise was pretty intense. While playing with a drone inside their home, Phil lost control and the drone crashed out of sight only to be thrown back seconds later. As with most horror movies, rather than making the rational decision to run the opposite direction, Phil went to investigate and ended up with his neck impaled on a broken window. Sondra made a run for it but couldn’t get the kitchen door unlocked in time and Michael stabbed her.

17. Dennis

Dennis was another offscreen kill but one with a chilling impact. Halloween Kills answered the question of why Michael Myers doesn’t kill children by proving the premise of the question false. Dennis was established earlier as one of three kids who feign an injury outside the former home of Michael Myers so the current owners – Big John and Little John – would come outside long enough for one of them (Dennis) to race inside and steal their candy. Dennis was wearing a skull mask in that scene — the same bloodied mask Michael carried with him later when the kids explained to Lindsey Dennis was missing. The implication was clear: Michael killed the boy, by far the youngest victim of the film.

18-20. Marion, Marcus & Vanessa

Marion, who along with Laurie Strode, died in Halloween movies before, met her new end in an homage to when Michael attacked her when she was a nurse working with Dr. Loomis, Michael’s first psychiatrist. Marion died bravely, trying to fend off Michael with a gun that unfortunately ran out of bullets at the worst time. Marion was with newcomers Marcus and Vanessa – a nurse and doctor dressed as a doctor and nurse, respectively – when she died.

Marcus and Vanessa first met Marion, Lindsey, Tommy, and Lonnie at a bar where the quarter was commiserating the 40th anniversary of surviving Michael’s rampage. After realizing he killed their neighbors (Sondra, Phil and two others), Marcus and Vanessa decided to join the original survivors in hunting for prolific serial killer Michael Myers. It’s a decision that cost both of them their lives. Michael got the better of Marcus inside the same car he killed Marion in, then, when Vanessa shot at him from outside the car, he knocked the car door into her arm causing Vanessa to shoot herself in the head.

21-22. Big John & Little John

Big John and Little John were the gay couple currently residing in Michael Myers former house. In another instance of horror movie-itis, the Johns realized there was someone else in their home – who definitely wasn’t a child this time – and armed themselves with knives before searching for the intruder. Choosing not to leave and call the police resulted in the inevitable demise of both Johns whom Michael made short work of.

23. Lance Tovoli

All 34 Deaths In Halloween Kills

Lance Tovoli, the fellow escaped convict seen playing chess in the preceding Halloween movie, was the second victim to die not at the hands of Michael himself. In the hospital where Laurie and Hawkins recovered from their injuries, an incensed mob suspected Tovoli could be Michael without his mask. They chased him through the corridors of the medical facility before Tovoli jumped out of a high floor window, killing himself, so he could prevent the townspeople from getting to him first.

24-25. Lonnie & Cameron

All 34 Deaths In Halloween Kills

Lonnie realized all the deaths that occurred were leading in one direction: back to Michael’s family home. Rather unwisely, he decided to then take his son and his son’s girlfriend there. Allyson wanted to avenge her father’s murder in Halloween, Lonnie wanted to end his tormentor’s reign of evil, and Cameron wanted to support his loved ones and avenge those who’d been lost. Only Allyson made it back out of the house alive in Halloween Kills, franchise sequel favorite on Rotten Tomatoes.

Lonnie, despite bringing the teens to where he believed a serial killer was hiding, told them to stay in the car while he headed inside on his own to confront Michael without backup. Because, again, this is a horror movie. When they heard noises from within the house, Cameron and Allyson entered the fray and Cameron found his dad stuffed in the attic’s drop downstairs. Michael then attacked both teens, and broke Cameron’s neck on the railing to the upper floor landing on his way downstairs to finish off a now-injured Allyson.

26-33. Tommy Doyle & Sheriff Brackett (& Six Others)

All 34 Deaths In Halloween Kills

After rescuing Allyson by luring Michael out of the house to kill her instead, Karen baited Myers into chasing her to an alley behind the house where a Haddonfield mob waited to serve justice to Michael. Frequently featured Halloween character Tommy was there. So was Sheriff Brackett, the original sheriff from 1978 whose daughter was killed by Michael. The mob took turns shooting and beating Michael and got him down on the ground to finish him off.

Tommy told Karen she didn’t need to be there to watch what happened next so she returns to Allyson back at the house, but not before lodging a knife in Michael’s neck. After all, this man killed her husband only hours earlier. The moment Karen departed, however, Michael got his second wind, and viciously killed at least six members of the attacking mob. As well as Sheriff Brackett and – finally – Tommy. Tommy put up a rather disappointing fight, for all his macho bravado depicted throughout the movie. Michael easily dispatched him in the end.

34. Karen

Karen’s death, which called back to the opening scene of Halloween Kills, was perhaps the most shocking of all, largely because it came in the last seconds of the film. Thinking Michael was dead, Karen stood outside the house with injured daughter Allyson when she stared up at the bedroom window where Michael would stand. She saw a vision of Michael as a young boy the night he killed his sister. Then, Karen went inside the house to that very same spot where Michael would stand. And, just like Officer McCabe did, Karen died in the very same spot. The moment she looked out the window Karen saw the reflection of Michael standing behind her. Allyson then watched in horror from outside as Michael murdered her Mom in Halloween Kills’ shock ending.

That the first and last deaths of Halloween Kills occurred in the same place was not a coincidence. Hawkins mentioned his theory that Michael would stand in that spot not looking out like everyone thought, but looking in. It’s a theme that was relevant to the entire film as seemingly everyone was forced to self-reflect, either out of guilt for Michael still being alive, a determination to strike back at the man forever haunting their nightmares, or the awareness mob mentality led to the death of an innocent man.

Laurie losing Karen in Halloween Kills clearly sets the stakes for an epic showdown between Strode and Myers in trilogy ending Halloween Ends due out October 2022. Presumably, Laurie will go out in a blaze of glory avenging her daughter’s demise while passing the franchise torch to Allyson. Hawkins and surprising survivor Lindsey could play significant roles, too, though are less likely to survive than Allyson, who would take up the mantle as sole surviving Strode, having lost everyone she ever loved.
