All Upcoming ScoobyDoo Movies

Fans of the Scooby gang have plenty of Scooby-Doo movies to look forward to. The long-running franchise began back in 1969 with Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! The show followed four teenagers and their talking Great Dane dog Scooby-Doo as they investigate supposedly supernatural mysteries that involve zombies, mummies and a host of other creatures. The series was an instant success and the franchise has rarely paused for breath in the decades since with new Scooby-Doo shows, video games, TV movies or other spinoffs.

The gang made their live-action film debut in 2002’s Scooby-Doo, which was written by James Gunn (The Suicide Squad). Gunn also penned 2004’s Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed and was set to direct Scooby-Doo 3, which would have found the gang hired to deal with a town overrun by monsters until they discover the humans are the real villains. This planned third movie was eventually canceled by Warner Bros, though the franchise received two TV movie prequels with Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins and Scooby-Doo! Curse Of The Lake Monster.

Scooby-Doo! Return To Zombie Island

All Upcoming ScoobyDoo Movies

Scooby-Doo On Zombie Island was a 1998 straight to video adventure that featured the gang investigating a haunted island in New Orleans. Zombie Island received great reviews upon release for its darker tone and excellent animation, and the fact the story contained real monsters instead of imposters was heavily promoted. The movie also featured voice-over work by Mark Hamill (Star Wars: The Last Jedi).

It’s been confirmed that a sequel called Scooby-Doo! Return To Zombie Island is happening. Sadly, the film doesn’t have a release date or synopsis yet, though it will presumably feature the same dark tone and creepy atmosphere that made the original movie such a fan favorite.

Scoob

Computer animated feature Scoob – AKA S.C.O.O.B – has been in development since 2014, but finally appears to be moving forward after years of delays. Dax Shepard (The Ranch) was originally set to write and co-director on the project, but he’s since been replaced by animation veteran Tony Cervone. Scoob will be a reboot of the Scooby-Doo movies and the first entry in a planned Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe.

Scoob also has an impressive voice cast, including Zac Efron, Amanda Seyfried, Will Forte and Tracy Morgan. The movie is set to hit cinemas May 15, 2020, and the story is said to feature the Scooby gang joining forces with other classic Hanna-Barbera characters to stop Dick Dastardly. If the movie is a success, it will likely lead to new movies featuring The Flintstones, The Jetsons and Yogi Bear.

It’s pronounced Paw-rick, not Pad-raig. Now that’s out of the way, a brief introduction. Padraig has been writing about film online since 2012, when a friend asked if he’d like to contribute the occasional review or feature to their site. A part-time hobby soon blossomed into a career when he discovered he really loved writing about movies, TV and video games – he even (arguably) had a little bit of talent for it. He has written words for Den of Geek, Collider, The Irish Times and Screen Rant over the years, and can discuss anything from the MCU – where Hawkeye is clearly the best character – to the most obscure cult b-movie gem, and his hot takes often require heat resistant gloves to handle. He’s super modern too, so his favorite movies include Jaws, Die Hard, The Thing, Ghostbusters and Batman. He can be found as i_Padds on Twitter making bad puns.
