Amazons Ring Drone Is Now Available How You Can Get It

Amazon’s Ring Always Home Cam is now officially available to buy, but picking one up is not going to be as easy as the company’s other smart home products. While many want security cameras in their home, some might not want a camera that’s potentially invading their privacy throughout the day. Amazon’s drone camera is designed to be a product that offers the best of both worlds.

The Always Home Cam was announced last year. Described as a small autonomous indoor camera, it is basically a security drone that can fly to points of interest if another Ring device detects intrusion. The camera will also do a security sweep – for lack of a better phrase – on command, providing reassurance that everything is exactly as it should be. As a means to ensure privacy, the Always Home Cam can’t see anything when docked. The drone can only record and stream video after it has taken off.

For many, the Ring Always Home Cam will be a pretty neat security device. While Amazon has now officially opened up orders for the device, the user will first need to request an invite to purchase the $250 security drone. To get started, head over to the Always Home Cam page, hit the “Request an invitation” button, and then complete a short survey. If Amazon decides to grant the request, the user will then receive an invitation via email to purchase the drone camera.

What To Know Before Requesting An Invite

As part of the survey, Amazon wants to know if the user has any other Ring devices, what sort of obstacles are in their home, and how many visitors are likely to show up. The more Ring devices that are in the home, the better, as the Always Home Cam can be triggered by other devices, such as Ring doorbells and cameras. Considering the drone nature of the device, it also makes sense that Amazon wants to know what type of obstacles are in the home. Likewise, it also makes sense that the frequency of traffic is likely to be something Amazon is interested in gathering data and feedback on, considering that’s one of the ways Ring Doorbell’s motion tracking is triggered. Essentially, Amazon is using this limited release as a way to better understand the user experience before a wider release.

Speaking of which, Amazon hasn’t stated how many requests will be granted or when the product will become generally available. Instead, the company simply explains that there are limited quantities available right now and invitations will be issued on a rolling basis. For those that are selected, however, Amazon’s Ring Always Home Cam could be a useful security addition to the home.
