A Redditor has calculated some of the forces involved in venting in Among Us as part of a physics project, giving fans an idea of how strong crewmates are and how fast they can move within the game. Among Us became one of the hit titles of 2020 even though it originally launched in 2018. Its success even led to developer Inner Sloth cancelling a planned sequel to update the original game. That decision seems to have paid off, with a recent Epic Games Store giveaway pushing Among Us’ player count to 2 million at the end of May 2021.

The continuing success of Among Us has led to a series of updates and content patches. The latest of these is the upcoming 15-player update, which will allow for matches with more players and introduce a wide range of new features. Following an interaction between the developer’s social media account and fans, Inner Sloth will also allow players to honk the Airship horn in Among Us when the update goes live.

A young Reddit user known as semchon on the site has done some interesting research on the physics of venting in Among Us. Explaining that the work was completed as part of a science project, it shows the different forces required to use vents in the game as well as giving an estimate of how fast the crewmates move. According to the calculations, the vent weighs an impressive 150kg and requires more than 17 Joules of force to open.

Meanwhile, the Redditor was able to calculate the speed at which characters move between vents. Using the crewmates’ official height of 1.07 meters, semchon worked out that they travel almost 20 meters a second when transferring from one vent to another. That’s equivalent to almost 45 miles per hour in total.

In other Among Us news, a McDonald’s chicken nugget that is accidentally shaped like a crewmember from the game has sold on eBay for a vast sum. The Among Us chicken nugget attracted a winning bid of $99,997. The seller had initially hoped to fetch just $1,000 for the unique item but bidding quickly jumped as news of the listing spread across the internet. The nugget, which came from a BTS Combo Meal, was frozen and air-sealed to keep it fresh.

Among Us has captured the imagination of fans like few other games in recent years. Players have posted everything from fan art to movie tributes in honor of the game and this science project further shows just how involved users are in Among Us and the way its world works.
