Marvel Games has distributed its properties into developer collaborations that have produced titles such as Marvel’s Spider-Man from Insomniac Games and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy from Eidos-Montreal. Marvel’s latest partnership announces the first initiative from Skydance New Media, whose Marvel title will be the studio’s debut game.

Skydance New Media is the interactive division of Skydance Media and led by influential industry powerhouses. Amy Hennig, President of Skydance New Media, is known for her seminal work on the Uncharted series, of which she was a co-creator, writer, and director. Alongside Hennig, Julian Beak is Skydance New Media’s Executive Vice President and General Manager, following six years as a producer at Electronic Arts. Now, Skydance New Media’s first initiative has been announced in tandem with Marvel.

Together, Hennig and Beak will bring their industry expertise with AAA, cinematic action-adventure to the highly adaptable Marvel universe with an original narrative. Skydance New Media was forged to craft “story-focused interactive entertainment,” which will be put forth toward its first project as a AAA Marvel title. Skydance New Media’s culmination of industry veteran talent appears like a perfect match for Marvel, considering the games that both studio heads have helmed and been a part of.

There is currently no indication of which Marvel property or characters Skydance New Media will be tasked with bringing to the interactive space, but based upon which characters have already received game adaptations in the modern AAA Marvel Games sphere, there are still many more that could be selected from.

With the likely intent to administer properties to different developers and publishers for a wider distribution of Marvel games, fans of the Marvel IP have had many games to look forward to that feature their favorite characters. Uncharted fans, for example, may hope to expect something of that quality through “high-fidelity, richly interactive experiences” as well as being “appealing, inviting, and accessible to a global audience.”

Indeed, Skydance New Media’s mandate of “mystery, exploration, discovery and adrenaline-pumping spectacle” spells out the portrayal of the Uncharted series considerably, which would be unsurprising given Hennig’s helming of the project. But this is a tried-and-true avenue for Marvel games as cinematic spectacles, so it seems like a perfect match once more. Some fans have suggested who they would like to see adapated to a AAA game, with Daredevil and Doctor Strange being two top choices.

With Insomniac taking on original continuities for Marvel’s Wolverine and Marvel’s Spider-Man, it will be exciting to see which Marvel property Skydance New Media has the chance to depict now that its partnership has been announced.
