Anakin’s Return Can Confirm A Rise Of Skywalker Ahsoka Theory

Anakin Skywalker’s appearance in the Ahsoka show could confirm a long-running theory about the Togruta from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Disney and Lucasfilm are making the most out of Hayden Christensen’s impending return to the space opera. After his confirmed involvement in Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+, which reunites him with Ewan McGregor, he’s also slated to appear in the upcoming Ahsoka project.

Not much is known regarding the plot details for the aforementioned series, but Ahsoka’s live-action debut in The Mandalorian provides clues about what to expect from its story. Played by Rosario Dawson, the character is revealed to be on the hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn. It’s unclear why, but it seems like the Chiss tactician is looking to take advantage of the power vacuum after the Galactic Empire’s fall, and it’s up to the former Jedi to stop him. It could also have something to do with the search for Ezra Bridger. How Anakin fits in all of this is currently murky, but the reports claim that Christensen will be back as Anakin Skywalker and not Darth Vader.

Assuming that his involvement it’s not just through flashbacks, then chances are that Ahsoka’s meets Anakin after his redemption in Return of the Jedi. Based on the established timeline, Ahsoka didn’t learn about her former master’s turn to the dark side until their battle in the Sith temple in Malachor at the end of Star Wars Rebels season 2. This was also their last known interaction. In Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, all prominent Jedi from the space saga’s history came together to motivate Rey (Daisy Ridley) during her fight in Exegol with Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid). That included both Anakin and Ahsoka, leading to theories that the latter previously learned of the former’s return to the light side. The upcoming Ahsoka series can ultimately show how this happened if Force Ghost Anakin shows up to converse with his old Padawan.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that the series can’t feature flashbacks from their days fighting in the Clone Wars. Lucasfilm can use the project to fill narrative gaps that can further strengthen Ahsoka’s personal story moving forward. But arguably, the most interesting approach to this is seeing her actually having a conversation with redeemed Anakin as a Force Ghost. Considering their falling out, it would be satisfying to see them patch things up with Anakin personally explaining why he fell to the dark side, instead of Ahsoka learning about it from a second-hand source. It’s worth noting that due to the progression of events, there’s no way Ahsoka could’ve encountered redeemed Anakin as he died not long after he turned against Emperor Palpatine. In any case, the fact that the re-mastered version of Return of the Jedi featured Christensen’s Force Ghost Anakin instead of Sebastian Shaw’s makes it easy for the studio to simply bring the prequel actor back in Ahsoka.

Whatever the case may be, the fact that Anakin will be in the Disney+ project suggests that Lucasfilm is aware of how important their relationship is to Ahsoka’s own arc. But considering their brief but impactful involvement in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, it would be great if Lucasfilm takes advantage of that narrative opportunity and use it in the Ahsoka series. Furthermore, seeing Force ghost Anakin actively connecting with former Padawan opens up the idea that perhaps, he’s also regularly convening with Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill).
