Andrew Garfield Vehemently Denies No Way Home Rumors (Again)

Andrew Garfield once again vehemently denies rumors he will appear in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Garfield portrayed Peter Parker in the two Amazing Spider-Man films, before that series was cut short and Spider-Man was rebooted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With this month’s Spider-Man: No Way Home going with a multiverse storyline that sees villains from past Spider-Man movie franchises returning, there’s been non-stop speculation Tobey Maguire and Garfield will reprise their versions of the wall-crawling hero, joining forces with Tom Holland.

Through it all, Garfield has continuously stated he will not be in No Way Home, even going so far as to say viewers will be disappointed when they get a chance to see the movie. Despite those claims, audiences still believe the previous Spider-Men will show up in some capacity; their absence from marketing materials a ploy to make their return a surprise. Last month, Garfield answered a No Way Home question in a more promising way, but now he’s back to his overt denials.

Sitting down with Wired for an Auto-Complete Interview, Garfield (unsurprisingly) discovered a popular search engine query for him is the prospect of playing Spider-Man again. As he has several times before, the actor took the opportunity to flatly deny it. Check out his response below:

“No, I’m not. I’m not! For crying out loud. But I’m really excited to see what they’re gonna do with the next movie. Because I just love them.”

In the video, Garfield seems to be playing up his answer for comedic effect, but he’s probably also feeling some frustration at repeatedly being asked this question. Back in November, Garfield stated he was done discussing No Way Home rumors, so he is definitely ready for this conversation to be over. The good news is No Way Home’s release date is right around the corner, so audiences don’t have much longer to wait until they get to find out the answer. Still, it’s worth wondering why Marvel or Sony never addressed this in the lead-up to No Way Home’s premiere. While Maguire and Garfield’s return (should it happen) would make for a great surprise, the studios could have set expectations for the movie early on one way or another without spoiling too many story details.

If Garfield is in No Way Home, he clearly isn’t at the liberty to reveal that information. Marvel is renowned for their high levels of secrecy, coaching talent on what they can and cannot say in interviews. Even Holland has gotten better at keeping spoilers under wraps, so Garfield (who has experience from The Amazing Spider-Man) is a veteran of this game. Whether or not he and Maguire return in Spider-Man: No Way Home is something everyone wants to know, but for now, variations of this denial are the only answers audiences will get.
