Angelina Jolie has been a Hollywood fixture since her younger years and has branched outside of film to become a humanitarian.

It doesn’t mean she has left behind her acting roots. Jolie continues to impress audiences with her acting skills. Who wouldn’t be when she has an Academy Award and Golden Globes wins under her belt? Her films are still totally buzzworthy, even years later.

15 Hackers (6.3/10)

Hackers is popular among certain fan bases for its outlook on the world of hackers and evolving technology. It also starred some notable actors from back in the day alongside Jolie. If you’ve ever seen a picture of Jolie with short Spock-like hair, it’s from this film. It was also her first leading major role.

A group of teenage hackers gets into deep trouble when one of their friends enters a garbage file through the back door of a company’s computer system. They unknowing become the fall guys for a major cover-up by another hacker who is stealing millions of dollars from an oil company.

14 Salt (6.4/10)

Jolie’s unique facial structure and her ability to channel a cold demeanor make for a great double agent in the film Salt. The film only got a 6.4 rating on IMDb but the storyline takes viewers on a rollercoaster of a ride. Jolie played Evelyn Salt, a CIA agent.

But things take a turn when interrogating a Russian defector brings forth an accusation concerning Salt being a Russian spy. The lie detector proves the story. The film had viewers questioning whether it was all a lie or if Salt is such a convincing double agent that she got away with it.

13 Mr. & Mrs. Smith (6.5/10)

While Mr. & Mrs. Smith probably made more off-screen headlines than on, the success of the movie speaks for itself.

With nearly half a million IMDb votes, the story of two unhappily married assassins who work out their problems through violence struck a major chord with audiences. Jolie plays Jane Smith in the film, a butt-kicking badass who has no idea her husband John is also a professional killer. When the two finally discover each other’s real identity, a cat-and-mouse shoot-’em-up results in a high-octane action spectacle.

12 Gone In 60 Seconds (6.5/10)

Angelina Jolie is well known for excellently portraying badass characters that don’t play by the rules. One such character was in Gone in 60 Seconds alongside Nicholas Cage. The action heist film wasn’t received too well, but that doesn’t detract from Jolie’s performance.

The movie centers around a group of car thieves including Jolie as Sara “Sway” Wayland. They must steal 50 cars within 72 hours to save the brother of the main thief. Jolie’s character sports a memorable head of white-blonde hair and gets her thrills from the wrong side of the law.

11 Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil (6.6/10)

Jolie reprised her role as Maleficent in the sequel film. Fans were more than happy to see her don the black horns again after her incredible performance in the first film. This time Maleficent must once again protect her home and the home of the fairies. Having a close bond with Aurora (Elle Fanning), it’s only natural that she returns to the castle to celebrate Aurora’s upcoming wedding.

As they say, the mother-in-law isn’t an easy sell. It was certainly true in this film, particularly when Maleficent comes to realize Aurora’s future mother-in-law is much more wicked than she is.

10 A Mighty Heart (6.6/10)

Jolie was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in A Mighty Heart, a movie that won the hearts of critics and casual moviegoers alike.

In the film, Jolie portrays the real-life journalist Mariane Pearl, who undertakes a heartbreaking journey to find her missing husband, Daniel (Dan Futterman). While pregnant, Pearl conducts an international search that begins in Turkey, where Daniel was last seen interviewing a religious fundamentalist. Emotionally rooted and politically charged, A Mighty Heart once again demonstrates Jolie’s superb acting chops.

Released in between Mr. & Mrs. Smith and A Mighty Heart, The Good Shepherd ranks as the seventh-best Jolie film to date.

Directed by Robert De Niro, Jolie is part of a huge ensemble including De Niro, Matt Damon, Joe Pesci, Alec Baldwin, Billy Crudup, and several others. In the film, Jolie plays Margaret “Clover” Russell who ultimately marries Damon’s character, Edward Wilson, who serves as the head of the CIA during the Bay of Pigs fiasco. The historical crime epic earned an Oscar nomination for Best Achievement in Art Direction.

Angelina Jolie and Denzel Washington proved to be quite the potent pairing when was The Bone Collector was released in 2001. But who knew it would remain this popular for so long?

In the film, Jolie plays Amelia Donaghy, a junior detective who must assume more responsibility when her senior partner, Lincoln Rhyme (Washington), is confined to a hospital bed. Rhyme is a suicidal quadriplegic out to catch a serial killer in NYC, but can’t do so without Donaghy’s help. As she gets closer to the killer, she must reconcile with the memory of her father’s suicide.

Who can forget the sly Fox, the super-sexy assassin Jolie played to perfection in Wanted? Yeah, we didn’t think so.

The 2008 critical and commercial smash hit marked the return of Jolie as an assassin for the first time since Mr. & Mrs. Smith. In the film, Fox takes young office worker Wesley (James McAvoy) under her wicked wing and shows him the ropes of professional killing. As Wesley warms up to the idea, he learns to unlock the innate abilities he inherited from his estranged father, a world-famous hitman.

The ensemble cast for Playing by Heart included Angelina Jolie as Joan. The 1998 film was a comedy-drama about several characters who at first seem to have no connection to one another. The film takes place by looking at the lives of different couples.

There’s the elderly couple still hopelessly in love ready to renew their vows and the relationship between mother and son as the son is dying of AIDS. There’s also an architect and a theater director along with a couple having an affair. All stories happen in everyday life when regarding love and relationships.

5 Gia (7.0/10)

In one of her sexiest and sultriest roles to date, Jolie won audiences over as real-life heroin-addicted fashion model Gia Carangi. The HBO movie also won two Golden Globes, including Jolie’s victory for Best Performance by an Actress in Motion Picture Made for Television.

In the biographic film, Gia’s triumphant rise and tragic fall in the drug-addled world of fashion are chronicled. So too are her sexual encounters, which include several steamy love-affairs.
