A year since the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Brewster and his café are still nowhere to be seen, prompting a desperate in-game meme from an impatient fan. Players have long been hoping that the iconic character will make his way to the Switch title, but so far Nintendo has disappointed them.

The Roost has served as a very beloved landmark in past Animal Crossing titles. In it, players would come inside and order a cup of coffee from Brewster, the pigeon behind the counter. K.K. Slider would also come by the Roost on Saturdays in order to hold concerts, and in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, players could work for Brewster and earn various exclusive coffee-themed items. In Animal Crossing: City Folk, Brewster would also provide a storage service for Gyroids, which is coincidentally another series of items cut from Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

A bulletin board drawing was posted by a user named J Fresh according to a comment from kinglucent on Reddit. The meme has been deleted since its posting, but it depicts a villager readying his net in order to prank Brewster when he arrives. Hitting Animal Crossing villagers with a net is a time-honored tradition among fans, and there are surely a lot of fans who are waiting to welcome Brewster in such a method. But 477 days after the game’s release, he has still yet to arrive.

The lack of Brewster in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a symptom of a growing issue fans have brought up with the game. Due to many aspects from past Animal Crossing games being cut along with a lack of substantial updates so far in 2021, a common consensus from many fans is that the game has a major issue of a lack of content. Other NPCs that weren’t in the game at launch such as Crazy Redd were brought in via post launch updates, and that could still happen with Brewster in the future. But the wait for him continues to be long and painful for many.

This bulletin board drawing perfectly encapsulates how long the wait has been for Brewster. It was assumed that he and other characters would be in the game at launch, but as of July 2021, he is one of several Animal Crossing characters that are still sorely missed. In Brewster’s case, he’s missed for the quaint atmosphere his shop provides. Doug Bowser does claim that there are still future content updates to come to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Fans can only hope that those plans include adding the Roost at long last sometime in the future, lest the game continue to feel as though it’s missing something key.
