Animal Crossing Every New Fish Coming in January 2021

Fishing is and always has been integral to Animal Crossing, and that is not likely to change in 2021. In New Horizons, just like in previous games in the series, players can catch fish from almost any body of water on or around their island. Thanks to the real-time game mechanic, the weather players experience at home matches what their character and villagers experience in the game. This means seasons shift like they will in real-time, and players can expect to find new fish on their lines each new month. New fish can be added to a player’s Critterpedia and donated to the museum to complete the entire Fish Gallery, and duplicates can be used as decoration or sold for extra bells to start the new year.

With winter just beginning in the Northern hemisphere, and summer kicking off in the Southern hemisphere, players can expect to find just a few new fish starting January 1, 2021. No new fish arrive this month in the Northern hemisphere, and no fish will leave at the end of January either. Players in the Southern hemisphere will find 5 new fish in January and lose one at the end of the month. There are a total of 80 fish in the game. Of these, 31 total can be caught in the Northern hemisphere in January, and 58 can be caught in the Southern hemisphere in January. Here’s every new fish coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in January.

As is typical, players will need to make sure they have a good fishing rod, either purchased or crafted and will likely want to craft some fish bait. The fish coming to the Southern hemisphere in January are almost all arriving in the ocean, and tossing in fish bait will increase the number of creatures that appear. While this won’t guarantee anything, it can improve the chances of players reeling in two of the rarest and most valuable fish in New Horizons: Napoleonfish and Blue Marlin.

Once players have donated their first catch of a new fish to Blathers at the museum, they can sell the duplicates. Fish can be sold to Timmy and Tommy at Nook’s Cranny, but they can also be sold to CJ any time he appears on the island. He will always pay 30% more per fish than the price players would get at Nook’s Cranny. Players in the both hemispheres can also see him to participate in the upcoming Fishing Tourney, set for January 9.

At the end of January, players in the Southern hemisphere will no longer be able to find the Tadpole, so any players who still need one for their collection should plan to find one before the end of the month.

January also brings a new NPC, Pavé, to Animal Crossing: New Horizons. He first appeared in Animal Crossing: City Folk and later in New Leaf and Pocket Camp. Pavé usually hosts the Festivale event, which is similar to Mardi Gras or Carnival. New Horizons players can expect Pavé in late January 2021.
