Animal Crossing How Much Fully Upgraded Homes Cost In Real Money

A fully upgraded home in Animal Crossing: New Horizons may look fairly expensive, but it turns out they’d be a lot more affordable to buy using real-life money than some players may have thought. A recent study by Ebuyer came out showing how much it would cost to own properties from fan-favorite games like Sims and Grand Theft Auto, and luckily for fans of New Horizons, their beloved in-game homes may be more affordable than expected.

In many games, players can purchase homes for their characters to live in and decorate as if it was their own. Buying and decorating a home in Animal Crossing has been one of the most coveted features of the series. In New Horizons, players can update their homes up to eight times, forming what was originally a tent into a three-story house with a basement, living room, open upper floor, and three extra rooms on the main floor. This gives plenty of space for players to renovate and decorate their houses to turn them into their dream homes, with New Horizons including all sorts of different themes, objects and appliances for players to pick and choose from.

According to Ebuyer’s study, a fully upgraded home in New Horizons would cost $55,959.98. This is a far cry from the 6.1 million bells it costs to purchase in Animal Crossing and it is far more affordable than one might expect for houses with this much space in real life. Why might this be, and could the living expenses for New Horizons residents make the home more expensive than real estate in other games?

Why Homes In Animal Crossing: New Horizons Are Affordable

A major reason why a New Horizons home could be so affordable is its location. The villages players help build in New Horizons are located on remote islands. With a plane being the only way to get to and from the island, a New Horizons village could be a very isolated place to live, thus giving it a low property value. Traveling could also be very expensive, as having to save Nook Miles to fly in New Horizons is already hard enough. Still, the remoteness of island existence could be a reason why players are attracted to live in their island homes, and their neighbors would all be cute, animal villagers.

Another reason why a home in New Horizons could be affordable is the responsibility that comes with island life. While a New Horizons island has enough plants and wildlife to sustain a village, residents are expected to harvest and collect food and materials to enable their communities to thrive. On top of this, the materials that islands can’t produce like the cloth required for Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Able Sisters store would then have to be imported, which could make clothing items and other merchandise more expensive. Nevertheless, players would save money on their groceries because they would be the person growing and collecting their food.

While living in an island home from New Horizons may seem like a dream, the affordability of a fully upgraded home suggests it could become a reality. The responsibilities that come with island life may be great, but the bliss of living amongst villagers is even greater. Players’ dream island homes will even get to become bigger in the future with Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ version 2.0 update, making these affordable houses even more attractive.
