Collecting villagers while building a town is an important part of gameplay in Animal Crossing. Villagers come in many different species, including wolves, cats, dogs, bears, and even octopuses. While Animal Crossing: New Horizons has added a few new villagers exclusive to the Nintendo Switch title, past games like Animal Crossing: New Leaf created crossovers with games like The Legend of Zelda series to welcome villagers inspired by popular characters like Wolf Link.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf – Welcome amiibo is available for the Nintendo 3DS. The New Leaf – Welcome amiibo update has a function that allows players to scan amiibo figures for in-game benefits. This mechanic gave Animal Crossing the ability to partner with other popular games to create crossover-inspired villagers unique to specific amiibo figures. These crossovers included villagers inspired by The Legend of Zelda, Monster Hunter, Splatoon.
There are several Legend of Zelda-inspired Animal Crossing villagers currently available in New Leaf. These include a bird villager based on the Rito girl Medli from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, a horse villager inspired by Link’s horse Epona, a pig villager based on the antagonist Ganon, and even a wolf villager inspired by Wolf Link in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The inclusion of these popular characters in Animal Crossing: New Leaf – Welcome amiibo is an exciting way for fans of both game series’ to see favorite characters in a new setting.
Animal Crossing: What Amiibo Figures Unlock Wolf Link
In order to have W. Link, or any of the other Legend of Zelda crossover villagers, on a player’s island, certain amiibo figures need to be obtained. This can be difficult, as Legend of Zelda amiibo figures are very popular, making them hard to find. To obtain W. Link, players will need one of the following amiibo:
- Link
- Princess Zelda
- Wolf Link
Currently, W. Link and other Legend of Zelda-inspired villagers are not available in the Nintendo Switch game Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, it is possible there could be a crossover between The Legend of Zelda and New Horizons in the future, as past Animal Crossing crossover collections like the Sanrio villagers have already made a reappearance. It is also possible new villagers could be introduced to represent popular characters from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, like the Champions of Hyrule, or other well-known characters like Impa. Bringing these crossover villagers back would likely be very exciting for Animal Crossing fans who enjoyed their appearances in the previous game.
