A Reddit post explaining that the printer used by Tom Nook in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is based on a popular real-life model made by Xerox has gone viral, showing that small developer details go a long way. The hugely popular Nintendo game also made waves on Reddit earlier this week. One enterprising user managed to create the Hercules “Zero to Hero”‘ song in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The frame-by-frame remake was incredibly accurate and helped showcase the creativity of the title’s thriving community.

With Easter fast approaching, Nintendo is already implementing a number of updates to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in anticipation of the upcoming Bunny Day event. The day itself won’t start until April 4 but special eggs have already been hidden in the game, with players having been able to discover them since March 28. Exactly what Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Bunny Day will entail is unclear, but if last year is anything to go by, players will likely be able to use the eggs as a currency to purchase limited-time event items.

It is not unusual for players to discover objects in games based on real-life things, as Animal Crossing games have long featured game consoles and other equipment based on Nintendo’s own products. However, Reddit user pancakerayleigh has confirmed that the printer used by Tom Nook in the game is an almost identical copy of an actual, non-Nintendo product. The Redditor, who says they “work with printers, suggested that it is based on the Xerox WorkCentre 7225. This is a particularly popular model used in offices, and the side-by-side image makes a strong case for the printer having been the direct inspiration for the Resident Services copy.

The game has also hit the news recently due to the fact that scalpers have driven up Sanrio amiibo card prices. The amiibo cards have been designed specifically for Animal Crossing: New Horizon, giving players access to special DLC villagers who can visit player’s islands. The cards went out of stock almost immediately after going on sale and are now only able to be bought online at vastly increased prices. Some packs were selling for as much as $100 on eBay despite the fact they cost just $6 to buy at retail.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has become one of the most popular and successful games of the last year. The fact that it came out just as the world was going into lockdown put it in a prime position to capitalize on the fact that many people were stuck at home. The extra time afforded to players has meant there have been lots of creative projects shown off over the last 12 months, but no matter how much time players spend in the game, it seems that they keep discovering new details that previously went unnoticed.
