Thanks to a new ABD system in the Happy Home Paradise office, the Animal Crossing: New Horizons DLC’s special currency – Poki – can now be exchanged for Bells. The November-released Happy Home Paradise package is ACNH’s first paid DLC content, with a special focus on the creative design aspect of the social simulation game.

Although Bells and Poki are both used to purchase goods and other items throughout Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the two currencies have their share of differences. Poki can only be used on the Archipelago (added to the game through its Happy Home Paradise DLC), whereas Bells can only be used on the game’s main, non-DLC island. Additionally, Poki can be used to purchase any of the constantly changing rare furniture items at the Paradise Planning office’s shop. Animal Crossing: New Horizons requires regular grinding for Bells – a process with a variety of strategies available to players. That said, Poki is collected through slightly different approaches: Archipelago villagers will reward players with Poki for completing design jobs and other related tasks.

Happy Home Paradise DLC’s office worker, Lottie, recently took over New Horizons office worker Isabelle’s Twitter to announce new developments related to Poki. Lottie explained that the Paradise Planning office has a new ABD system where players can deposit and withdraw Poki. Additionally, the ABD will allow players to exchange Poki for Bells, similar to a currency exchange system available to traveling tourists in real life. And, much like the value of real-world currencies, the Loki-Bells exchange rate is set to change each day. This latter feature is, in some ways, similar to New Horizons’ turnip market – which sees the value of turnips fluctuating constantly.

Players can most easily earn Poki by designing vacation homes for villages – which results in a 6,000 Poki payment. That said, items purchased with Poki are – in many cases – quite expensive. As a result, the grind to earn Poki can be somewhat laborious. That said, the ACNH DLC’s remodel cheat is a great way to quickly earn Poki. The remodel exploit requires players redesign vacation homes and facilities on the Archipelago, resulting in a flat rate of 5,000 Poki or half their paycheck for villagers’ homes.

Poki is a fresh new addition to the long-unchanged Animal Crossing: New Horizons. While it mirrors the usage and concept of Bells, Poki breathes new life into ACNH thanks to providing more than one motivation to execute work throughout the game. The Happy Home Paradise DLC has generally brought a variety of new features to Nintendo’s social simulation title, and its updates – such as the Poke-Bells exchange ABD – appears to additionally sharpen the gameplay experience. While this currency exchange mechanic may seem like a small feature, it provides a stronger link between Happy Home Paradise DLC and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
