Toy Story’s Woody and Buzz Lightyear have made their way to Tom Nook’s island with some help from a creative Animal Crossing: New Horizons player. Thanks to the robust customization options in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the Toy Story stars are just the latest in a long list of fan-made designs being shared in the hit game.
While Woody and Buzz feel pretty at home in the aesthetic of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the game also has its fair share of more surprising unofficial crossovers. Players have added Rick’s garage from Rick & Morty, recreated the intro to Avatar: The Last Airbender, and in one of the more out-of-place creations, built an entire room themed around Red Dead Redemption 2, complete with a bearded cowboy. It’s not just other games and TV shows getting remade in Animal Crossing, either, with one player adding a decal of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to their in-game rock garden.
The Buzz and Woody decals for Animal Crossing: New Horizons come courtesy of Reddit user Tengu_Boogie, who posted an image of the creation in the game’s subreddit along with comes for other players to download the pattern. The Toy Story tribute goes much further than just the decal, though, as the picture that Tengu_Boogie shared shows them posed in a room modeled to look like Andy’s bedroom from the first movie, complete with blocks and toy boxes. All of the other items in the Toy Story themed room can be found in Animal Crossing without using player-made patterns, for anyone who has the time to collect enough bells for the full set.
Despite being a mostly singleplayer game, Animal Crossing: New Horizons turned into one of the early multiplayer hits of 2020 thanks to its wealth of social features. Players have taken to trading villagers, swapping DIY recipes, and turning their islands into art exhibits for other fans to visit, among other things. Some have even started earning a living from Animal Crossing, offering their services as designers and gardeners to players who don’t have the time to maintain their islands on their own.
Nintendo surely suspected that it had a hit on its hands with Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but it would have been hard to predict all the ways that the game has turned into a cultural phenomenon since its launch. While some players are complaining about a lack of official content, those who are willing to make their own fun are finding plenty of ways to keep island life fresh.
