Apple Fitness+ is now home to Group Workouts alongside Pilates and snow-based sports, such as skiing and snowboarding. Announced last year, the fitness subscription service has been designed with Apple Watch users in mind, offering access to a wide range of expert-guided workouts for a flat monthly or annual fee. Since its launch, Apple has continued adding more workout types to the service, with the most notable one being Time To Walk.
As the name makes abundantly clear, Time To Walk encourages users to walk while listening to podcasts and music, some of which are recorded by musicians and sports stars. New content is added with each episode, keeping things fresh in the listening catalog. Earlier this year, Apple Fitness+ also introduced support for workouts aimed at helping folks through their pregnancy journey, in addition to workouts tailored for older users as well as beginners.
The Apple Fitness+ portfolio is now expanding further with the arrival of Group Workouts. The goal is to help users engage in an exercise session with their friends and family members for an extra dose of inspiration and encouragement. Group Workouts With SharePlay will arrive on Apple Fitness+ in the fall and will allow up to 32 people to join a single session. Users will be able to start a group workout using iMessage chats or via a FaceTime call on their iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV. Once a Group Workouts session begins, users will see the other participants on their screen, along with their own stats including their exercise progress and how much effort extra effort is needed to close their Activity Ring. Users will be notified every time participants in their group workout session achieve their workout target and close their Activity Ring. Or, as Apple puts it, a moment of celebration or time for some inspirational talk from the trainer.
Pilates, Skiing And Snowboarding
In addition to Group Workouts, Apple Fitness+ is also adding support for Pilates as the latest low-impact workout type. Focused on enhancing strength and flexibility, a majority of Pilates routines will require nothing more than an exercise mat, but there are a few that employ accessories such as resistance bands. The typical range of a Pilates session will be 10, 20, or 30 minutes, and there are going to be seasoned experts to help get the workout going.
In addition to Pilates, Apple is adding support for two winter sports — skiing and snowboarding. And for those worried about the credentials of their trainer, Apple has roped in five-time world champion and two-time skiing Olympic gold medalist Ted Ligety to dole out some words of advice. Time to Walk is also getting new content from Camilla Cabello, actress Gabrielle Union, and the “Me Too” movement founder Tarana Burke among other notable personalities. Lastly, Guided Meditations are also making their way to Apple’s fitness subscription service.
