Apple Refreshes 27Inch iMac With New Intel CPU 1080p Webcam & More

Apple announced that its 27-inch iMac is getting a major makeover. From the Intel processor to the Retina 5K display, to improvements in the webcam, the speakers and the microphone, the iMac has been updated to reflect the increasing reliance on technology. All these new and improved features have been included to create a high-powered solution for those who use their iMac on a daily basis.

The 27-inch iMac was first released in 2009, with a wide screen that seemed ideal for media displays. Only two years later, the 27-inch iMac underwent its first update, now including the i7 processor — in other words, it offered improved memory and faster information processing. In 2014, Apple updated the monitor, bringing the Retina display, resulting in crisp and clear images. Between 2017 and 2019, not much changed in terms of the iMac’s display, although the 2019 model featured an i9 processor versus the i7 included in the 2017 model.

In a press release, Apple described this new version of the 27-inch iMac as “the most powerful and capable” that the company has ever made. Among its many improvements is the Intel processor, which now goes up to ten cores. This will impact how quickly the computer will be able to complete a task — like working in Final Cut Pro or sending an email. The updated Retina 5K display allows users to view pictures in sharper detail, and even reduces the glare on the screen. Apple also improved the FaceTime HD webcam, bringing the resolution to a high-definition 1080p, and making sure video calls have crystal clear images. Other updates include doubling the memory and quadrupling the storage capacity.

What These iMac Updates Mean For Consumers

As Apple pointed out, people now rely on their computers more than ever before. Working from home is looking more permanent, and for the big tech companies like Google, as well as smaller businesses. Improving the Retina display and memory is one way to help workers do their jobs better, and the upgraded webcam might make those Zoom calls go a little more smoothly. For students who may be attending virtual school again this year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, a computer with such stellar tech specs could be incredibly useful, enabling them to get their work done, while also staying connected with other students and their teachers.

It’s absolutely undeniable that a good desktop is more or less a necessary investment at this point. Apple is offering all of these improvements without raising the price, allowing customers to make their own investment without a hefty price tag that one might expect from a ten-core Intel processor or the studio-quality microphones. Thanks to all the improvements to the 27-inch model, iMac users are getting more bang for their buck, at a time when a high-functioning computer is all the more crucial to making a living and/or getting a good education.
