Apple Watch Series 6 Battery Life Explained How Many Hours You Can Expect

The Apple Watch Series 6 is now official and comes with a number of improvements and upgrades over the Series 5, although battery life is not really one of the major changes. As a result, those considering upgrading to the Watch Series 6 just for an improved battery experience may want to consider whether the other upgrades are worth the additional purchase cost.

The Apple Watch has consistently proven to be a major smartwatch player, dominating the market each quarter since release. However, while other smartwatch options don’t sell as many units, they do often come with improvements in key areas over the Apple Watch. For example, battery life is one area where consumers can often get better value by opting for a different smartwatch.

With Apple having now officially announced the Apple Watch Series 6, most of the technical information and specs have also been confirmed. In terms of battery life, the Watch Series 6 is rated to offer up to 18 hours before needing to be charged again. For reference, this is exactly the same expectation from the Watch Series 5 and for that matter, the Watch Series 3. Therefore, on paper, there’s no notably improvement in battery life with Watch Series 6.

Reading Beyond The Watch Series 6 Battery Rating

Of course, various factors do play into the battery life equation and so while Apple is not specifying any obvious improvements in this department, that’s not to say there won’t be some improvements. For example, the new Watch comes powered by the latest S6 chip and it would be expected that the newer chip would be more efficient, compared to the S5 chip included in the Series 5 model. Even if there’s no improvement in battery life, the S6 processor is said to be 20-percent faster than the chip powering the Series 5 and therefore, buyers will get a better and faster performing smartwatch, without having to compromise on battery life at all.

Another battery-related area that might be worth focusing on is charging. Apple says that the Watch Series 6 can be charged to 80-percent in about one hour and can receive a full charge in about 1.5 hours. That’s quicker than the Series 5 can, so while Series 6 might not necessarily last any longer, its downtime is also less. In short, the Apple Watch Series 6 does not specifically come with any notable battery improvements, but it will charge quicker and it will perform faster in general.
