Apple Watch Series 7s New Display Looks Massive In This Comparison Photo

Apple’s been very vocal about the larger display on the Apple Watch Series 7, but if its marketing hasn’t convinced someone to upgrade just yet, this new photo comparing it to the old Series 6 certainly will. Announced in September and set to launch this Friday, the Apple Watch Series 7 is a pretty minor upgrade over the Series 6. It has the same CPU, identical health features, and unchanged battery life. All of that makes it look pretty dull on the surface, though there are some key upgrades for this generation. Series 7 owners are treated to 33 percent faster charging, a more rugged screen, and — most importantly — a larger display.

While rumors of a flat-edged Apple Watch turned out to be false, the new design for the Series 7 is still rather impressive. In addition to being more rounded than past models, the Series 7 also touts the biggest Apple Watch screen to date. It’s 20 percent larger than the Series 6, 50 percent larger than Series 3, and does all of that without drastically increasing the actual case size. However, numbers don’t tell the whole story. A 20 percent larger screen sounds great, but what does that actually look like?

Thanks to a new Tweet from tech journalist Domenico Panacea, we now have a proper answer to that question. Early in the morning on October 14, Panacea Tweeted multiple photos of the 41mm Apple Watch Nike Series 7. Along with a few images of the Series 7 on its own, Panacea also shared a picture of the Series 7 next to a Series 6. Simply put, the comparison is a bit jaw-dropping.

Smaller Apple Watch Bezels Make A Huge Difference

Side-by-side with the Series 6, the Apple Watch Series 7 looks infinitely better. The smoother design is apparent, the bezels are a fraction of the size that they were before, and this further contributes to the more rounded aesthetic Apple’s going for. The Series 7 really makes the Series 6 look a bit ancient. Considering that bezel size was never an issue for the Series 6, it’s impressive Apple was able to improve it to such a noticeable degree.

As for the impact this has on day-to-day use, that’s where things may still fall apart from some people. Outside of slightly larger buttons and increased text size, the interface of the Apple Watch Series 7 is very much the same one we’ve had on all previous Apple Watches. The main benefit of this larger screen is to show off watch faces and that familiar UI without it being accompanied by now seemingly huge black bars.

Is that enough to warrant an upgrade over the Series 6? Probably not for most shoppers, but it is exciting to see that the Apple Watch Series 7’s display is more impactful than we’d anticipated. For someone with a Series 5 or older that’s looking to make the jump, pre-orders are still open now, with sales beginning on October 15.
