Arcane MTG Secret Lair Drops Coming For League of Legends Crossover

Upcoming Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair drops will include cards based on League of Legends’ new Netflix show, Arcane. Around Halloween, MTG released cards based on Stranger Things, and now Arcane is next in line to get similar treatment as the show’s first act comes to a close.

Netflix recently launched Arcane, a series based on League of Legends chronicling the early lives of some of the game’s most iconic characters, and the show has generated quite a bit of buzz and favorable reviews. League of Legends developer Arcane, has gone to great lengths marketing Arcane, adding in-game events in its games and lining up an assortment of promotional collaborations in other media. Just last week, Riot Games and Innersloth revealed Arcane Among Us skins based on the show’s characters, which will only be available for purchase until the end of the year. Magic: The Gathering, with its history of crossing over with all kinds of properties, also seems to be striking while the iron is hot.

Magic: The Gathering is collaborating with Arcane on two new drops in its Secret Lair, the section of its store used for limited-run crossover cards. The cards will feature moments and locations from Arcane, including Piltover and the Undercity, both of which are seen throughout the show. These drops will release after Arcane has released its final batch of episodes on November 29, and they’ll be available to order in both foil and non-foil variants (with a slight difference in price between the two) through December 23. Arcane stands out for its unique animation style, so hopefully that will come across in the new MTG crossover cards.

Within League of Legends itself, Riot recently revealed reworked outfits and skins for Caitlyn, one of the game’s oldest characters who is also a major character in Arcane. All this month, Riot has been celebrating Arcane’s Netflix premiere with a series of events themed around the show, with prizes for players of games both made by Riot and made by outside studios. Titled RiotX Arcane, the event features collaborations with various other studios, including a Jinx outfit now available in Fortnite. Since many of the League of Legends locations wouldn’t look out of place in some of MTG’s planes, this crossover makes sense.

Riot Games may have struck gold with its Netflix adaptation of League of Legends. Appropriately enough, Magic: The Gathering is next in line, as its own Netflix show due to release sometime in late 2022. Maybe the two shows will cross over someday just as they have with these cards, as almost anything seems possible in both games’ universes.
