Settlement upgrades do a lot for players in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla. These upgrades affect things like what missions the player can go on, their Feast boon, their assassination damage, and more. That being said, which ones a player chooses early on can have a big impact later down the road. Upgrading settlements in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is essential to expand Raventhorpe and unlock new missions, items, and weapons. Every building in the settlement serves a purpose where some are crucial for early story progression while others aren’t a priority in the beginning.
Players will start with a longhouse but soon will be able to build new buildings in the settlements. However, they will first need to gather enough raw raterials and supplies to build and upgrade essential buildings in the settlement. Each upgrade in the settlement will go through six levels that will open up as the player progresses the story.
Before players get too far, each upgrade has requirements. Depending on the type of upgrade, they require the settlement to be a certain size and a certain number of raw materials to build. This means that the Raven Clan will need to raid for materials and grow if they want to gain new and better upgrades.
Top 10 Starting Ravensthorpe Upgrades in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla
Players are not required to survey their entire settlement for upgrades in AC Valhalla. Instead, they can simply send out their raven and analyze the settlement in stationary mode. While some buildings are necessary to build initially, the game leaves it entirely to the player which buildings to upgrade next using vital resources from raids. Here are the important buildings players need to upgrade first:
The Assassin’s Guild
- This upgrade unlocks the Order of the Ancients, the predecessors to the Templars. While this doesn’t happen super early as it can’t be built until after a Hidden One’s Bureau is made, it will affect the quests the player can go on and have a big impact on the main storyline of the game.
The Bakery
- This building offers up the Feast Buff. This allows a crew of Jomsvikings to eat and gain the Feast Buff from eating. The Bakery does require Ravensthorpe to be at the colony level of the settlement, however, it is well worth it as soon as it is available to the player. This upgrade costs 600 supplies and 45 raw materials.
The Blacksmith
- The Blacksmith is the first real option for players with their settlement. This is due to the Blacksmith giving the Ravensthorpe residents the ability to upgrade, enhance, and improve their weapons and equipment. This isn’t without a fair trade, however. To do any of the previous actions a player will need to trade in their rare and valuable metal ingots. This upgrade costs 400 supplies, 30 raw materials, and can be made at the very beginning.
The Barracks
- The Barracks can be built soon after the Blacksmith has been built. This upgrade allows Ravensthorpe to build crews from custom or recruited Jomsviking. Then these crews can be sent off on missions, and if successful, they will return with rewards. The Barracks cost 400 supplies and 30 raw materials to build.
The Cartographer
- The Cartographer can be built while Ravensthorpe is in the Hamlet stage. It provides the player’s clan with maps of each area that can be bought to reveal where players can find Ingots, Gear, Books of Knowledge, and Raw Materials. This build costs 800 supplies and 60 raw materials.
The Hidden One’s Bureau
- The Hidden One’s Bureau can be built immediately after the player pledges their allegiance on the Alliance Map. The Bureau offers more missions to take on, and will eventually unlock the Assassin’s Guild. This costs 400 supplies and 30 raw materials.
The Hunter’s Hut
- The Hunter’s Hut can be built at the colony level of Ravensthorpe. This building will give players the ability to find Legendary Animals and trade them in for trophies. This build costs 600 supplies and 45 raw materials.
The Museum
- This build can be made at the colony level of Ravensthorpe. The Museum allows the player to trade in the Roman Artifacts they have found during their journeys for trophies. It costs 600 supplies and 45 raw materials to build.
The Seer’s Hut
- The Seer’s Hut can be built at the Hamlet level of Ravensthorpe. This allows the player to take psychedelic adventures and take on new missions. This cannot be built until after the player has met Valka at the docks after completing the Wise Friend mission. This build costs 800 supplies and 60 raw materials.
The Stable & Aviary
- While not being incredibly important, this settlement upgrade can be built at the very beginning of the Raven Clan’s existence. However, this is also a fairly useful upgrade as it allows the player to purchase, upgrade, and change the look of the player’s horse and raven. Upgrades include things like horse swimming, endurance, and strength training. This upgrade costs 400 supplies and 30 raw materials to construct.
Not all of these builds will be available as soon as the player settles in Ravensthorpe, however, these are the best options at their levels. Beyond these, there are plenty more options for settlement upgrades that players can make. Among these are the Trading Post, Fishing Hut, Shipyard, Tattoo Shop, Brewery, Alvis and Hodger’s House, Grain Farm, Cattle Farm, Fowl Farm, Kari’s House, and more. Most of these add an extra effect to the Feast Buff, Assassin damage, how much armor the player has, and Customization content for the player character and their many different pet options. Players should pick and choose out of this list depending on the level of their Ravensthorpe as different play styles will do better with different mixtures. However, the list will give players access to all the different mission types.
