Attack on Titan is one of the most popular manga and anime series ever created, largely due to its intense action and a vast array of memorable characters. The adventurous exploits of protagonists Eren, Mikasa, Armin, Reiner, and Levi began with season 1 in 2013, which lasted 25 episodes. During the inaugural season of the show, a large majority of the main and supporting characters were introduced in some form or fashion.

While many of the characters from season 1 returned for successive seasons, several new characters were introduced four years later when season 2 officially aired in 2017. These are the best of the bunch.

10 Kaya

As the most famous civilian other than Carla and Grisha Yeager, Kaya first appeared in Attack on Titan during season 2, episode 2. The reserved and soft-spoken character is perhaps most notable for being rescued by Sasha during a savage Titan attack on Wall City.

Later, when Kaya learns her friend Gabi killed Sasha, she attempts to take his life in Nicolo’s restaurant as a means of revenge. Although the attempt fails, Kaya’s faithful allegiance to Sasha’s family remains intact for many years.

9 Isabel Magnolia

Introduced alongside Furlan Church in “No Regrets: Part 1” well after season 1 ended, Isabel Magnolia was one of Levi’s closest confidants before and after her time in the Scout army. With a personality diametrically opposed to her accomplice Furlan, Isabel became like a little sister to Levi after he found her in a garbage heap in Underground City.

With an infectious attitude and confidence to speak her mind, Isabel is an adorable character whose grisly death at the hands of an Abnormal Titan broke fans’ hearts.

8 Freida Reiss

Making her series debut in season 3, episode 5, Freida Reiss is an important character with a long family history. As Historia’s eldest half-sister, Freida’s biggest moment comes after absorbing the Foundation Titan and fighting an epic battle with Grisha that ended in her demise.

Before assuming her Pure Titan form, Freida vowed to protect Historia by erasing her memories. Her personality altered once receiving the Foundation Titan, immediately killing her own uncle Uri. Her complicated arc in a short span makes Freida a memorable late series addition.

7 Nicolo

Introduced in season 4 episode 9, Nicolo begins his arc as a typical Marleyan warrior who becomes captured by the Scout Regiment. While imprisoned, Nicolo serves as a chef who begins to respect his captors.

Nicolo becomes close friends with Jean and Connie on Paradis Island and begins a romance with Sasha Blouse. While his attempts to kill Gabi and Falco are unsuccessful, his willingness to align with the Scouts despite his upbringing demonstrates dedicated loyalty to the cause.

6 Marcel & Porco Galliard

With both possessing the ability to transform into the mighty Jaw Titan, brothers Marcel and Porco Galliard are Marleyan warriors who also happen to be childhood friends of Annie, Bertholdt, and Reiner. Marcel was introduced in season 2, episode 4, and Porco in season 3, episode 21.

While Marcel is often cordial and friendly, Porco is bossy and condescending. However, the two remain extremely loyal to one another even when they don’t always get along. When in their diminutive Jaw Titan form, the brothers are the second-quickest Titans of all.

5 Furlan Church

As one of Levi’s closest and most loyal accomplices, Furlan Church is one of the most memorable characters to join the show after the first season. Introduced in “A Choice with No Regrets: Part One,” Furlan became an instant fan favorite due to his sudden and shocking demise.

Upon joining Levi’s gang, Furlan becomes determined to complete the mission of assassinating Erwin Smith. After stealing the omnidirectional mobility gear and using it to train himself and Isabel, Furlan is abruptly ambushed by an Abnormal Titan who chews Furlan in half.

4 Gabi Braun

Reiner Braun’s cousin Gabi made her series debut in season 4, episode 1 and instantly made a memorable impact. Poised to inherit the Armored Titan abilities, Gabi is perhaps most notable for killing Sasha Blouse.

While failing to kill Jean, Gabi successfully took Lobov’s life, the Garrison leader who mounted an attack on Liberio. As a skilled warrior and expert hand-to-hand combatant, Gabi’s strong alliance with Pieck could mean big things for the Marleyan army.

3 Falco Grice

Despite his military rank, Falco Grice is a diminutive Eldian warrior who is often injured in battle and needs his brother Colt to save him from danger. With a much nicer demeanor than most, Grice has become a lovable enemy since joining the show in the season 4 premiere.

Grice has such a kind heart that he has been known to treat POWs with great compassion by treating their wounds after capture. Falco also risks his own life to save Gabi when under attack, showing what bravery he has despite his limited fighting skills.

2 Pieck Finger

Introduced in season 3 episode 13, Pieck Finger ultimately became the inheritor of the Cart Titan, a unique four-legged beast with imposing size and superior speed. The Marley warrior assumed her Titan status after Ymir’s death.

Although her attempts on Levi and Hange’s lives ultimately failed, Pieck is a formidable foe who led a successful salvo to save the Jaw Titan during the attack on Liberio. After surviving a sniper attack from Sasha, Pieck was rescued by Gabi and Falco.

1 Zeke Yeager

As Grisha’s son and Eren’s half-brother, Zeke Yeager is one of the most important and powerful characters to be introduced in season 2. The ex-captain of Marley’s Warrior platoon was thought to be the strongest fighter after absorbing The Beast Titan.

The chief antagonist of season 2 can grow to the size of a 17-meter Titan and use his royal bloodline and spinal fluid to control Eldians. With off-the-charts intelligence and wildly unpredictable nature, Zeke is hell-bent on destroying the Founding Titan before it’s too late.
