Characters from Game of Thrones and Avengers: Endgame go head to head in a Family Feud sketch on Saturday Night Live. SNL is currently in its 44th season, and has been on the air since 1975. Former SNL alum Adam Sandler hosted the show last night, with Shawn Mendes as the musical guest.

The Infinity Saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe came to a close with Avengers: Endgame and the final season of Game of Thrones is already half over. SNL season 44 is also nearing its end, with only two more episodes left. NBC recently announced Emma Thompson and Paul Rudd as the final two hosts of the season, but first, Sandler would make his return to the series. The episode provided plenty of laughs, but its cold open pitted Game of Thrones against Avengers: Endgame.

Last night’s Saturday Night Live saw the return of Kenan Thompson as game show host Steve Harvey, with Alex Moffat (Thor), Beck Bennett (Thanos), Kate McKinnon (Brienne of Tarth), Mikey Day (Tormund Giantsbane) and Kyle Mooney (Bran Stark) playing the contestants. Other characters from Game of Thrones and Avengers: Endgame like Arya Stark (Melissa Villasenor), Lady Melisandre (Cecily Strong), Okoye (Ego Nwodim), and Groot (Leslie Jones) also appeared. The contestants had to guess the most popular responses for things that would be on a bucket list, but of course their responses were crafted to each character’s desires. While SNL parodies politics and pop culture, the entertainment industry has been doing incredibly well on both the big and small screens. Not only has Avengers: Endgame been getting stellar reviews, the film has earned Disney a ton of money. Endgame earned a $1.2 billion opening weekend, and is even on track to beat James Cameron’s Avatar as the highest-grossing film ever. Likewise, Game of Thrones has been doing incredibly well in its eighth and final season. The latest episode, “The Long Night”, set a series rating record, despite polarizing a lot of fans.

Even though both Game of Thrones and Avengers: Endgame are rather serious and carry a high body count, SNL was able to successfully parody both franchises. It’s appropriate that they went head to head on Family Feud after “The Long Night” and Avengers: Endgame came out in the same week. Usually the two franchises wouldn’t really be comparable, but this sketch brought them together in a way that only Saturday Night Live could.
