Astrid Loch and Kevin Wendt from Bachelor In Paradise announced over the weekend that they are expecting their first child together after a long journey with IVF. The couple met on Bachelor In Paradise season 5 after they had both previously appeared on different shows in The Bachelor franchise. Kevin won Bachelor Winter Games alongside Ashley Iaconnetti, and Astrid appeared on Nick Viall’s season of The Bachelor. By the end of BIP season 5, Kevin and Astrid decided to break up but revealed during the reunion they had resumed dating once they both left Mexico.

After a year of dating, Kevin proposed to Astrid by a lake in Toronto, where the couple currently resides. Astrid was surprised by the proposal, but she certainly knew that Kevin was the one for her. Their wedding was planned for November 2020 but was pushed back due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Even though they couldn’t throw a wedding ceremony, Kevin and Astrid decided to move out of their condo and buy a house in Toronto. Now that they are homeowners, this BIP couple is ready to welcome their bundle of joy.

As seen below, Astrid Loch shared via Instagram on Sunday that she and her fiancé Kevin are welcoming their first child together in November. “One of the first conversations [Kevin] and I had was about how we both loved kids and couldn’t wait to have our own,” Astrid began her Instagram caption. “To all the couples trying to get pregnant, my heart is with you […] We too struggled with fertility and conceiving naturally – it’s the toughest thing we’ve ever been through.” In an interview with People, the 31-year-old opened up about her challenging journey to conception. She is currently 12 weeks along, and already this stage has felt “fairly easy” compared to the other challenges the couple dealt with along the way.

The former reality stars originally tried IUI (intrauterine insemination) before IVF (in vitro fertilization), as IVF is more intrusive than IUI. They did two rounds of IUI, and during the second round, Astrid discovered that they had an ectopic pregnancy. The BIP alumni had to “take medication to terminate the ectopic pregnancy,” which ended up pushing their plans back by more than two months. Since the medication is so strong, she and Kevin had to wait for almost three months to try an IVF cycle. They decided to try out non-traditional methods for conception after they tried to conceive naturally for a year. However, they didn’t let the negative tests bring them down as they tried to keep a positive mindset the entire time.

Infertility struggles can be challenging for couples who have been trying to conceive for quite some time. Alas, Astrid and Kevin remained positive throughout their journey, no matter how difficult some days were. Now, this Bachelor In Paradise couple is welcoming their first child together, and they couldn’t be more excited to start growing their family. Congratulations to Astrid and Kevin!
