Riley Christian and Maurissa Gun may have made Bachelor In Paradise history after their heart-warming engagement, but the couple isn’t paying much attention to it. Season 7 of the hit summer show ended with a whole lot of love and three engagements. The final couples who gave each other their last rose alongside a ring include Riley and Maurissa, Joe Amabile, AKA “Grocery Store Joe,” and Serena Pitt, and Kenny Braasch and Mari Pepin. The love didn’t stop flowing there. Though Becca Kufrin and Thomas Jacobs weren’t ready to take their relationship to the next level, they, along with Abigail Heringer and Noah Erb, decided to get back together after they left the sandy beaches of Paradise.

As for Riley and Maurissa’s relationship, the duo has been together since the beginning. After a whirlwind romance and intimate night in the fantasy suite, Maurissa was worried that Riley wouldn’t propose later that day. Though she was confident in her love, she wasn’t sure if he was ready to spend the rest of his life by her side. Riley consistently tried to say little things that would psych her out but ultimately confessed his love for his bride-to-be and got down on one knee. She happily accepted and scolded him for trying to throw her off all at the same time.

Shortly after the episode aired, Riley and Maurissa told ET that they had no idea their engagement was making franchise history until they learned they were the first Black couple to get engaged on the show on social media. Though Riley believes the heart-warming moment was “good for the culture,” he doesn’t want it to overshadow the love he’s built nor the person he’s built it with. “At the end of the day, it’s about us. It’s about our engagement,” Riley said. “We went on the show to find love. We found it, and we got engaged.” Adding that “looking alike” is just the cherry on top of the cake, Riley “couldn’t be more happy” for their future.

Now that Riley and Maurissa’s engagement is announced, they are making plans to meet each other’s families and move in together. As everything stands now, Maurissa is planning to move from Atlanta to New York to officially begin their life together. Once the move is made, Riley is just excited to start living out his Sunday morning dream. “Sunday morning, for me, it’s just a time of peace,” Riley said. “I always had this vision of just being able to have my family and just be able to relax on a Sunday morning, cook some breakfast, some bacon, and eggs. You’ve got your children there. It’s just a great feeling. It’s no stress.” Maurissa added that she hopes they can make “a whole basketball team” of kids and looks forward to starting their own traditions.

Riley and Maurissa’s love is leading by example in terms of authenticity and diversity on the hit summer show. As Bachelor Nation witnessed with this season of Bachelor In Paradise, it’s become harder than ever to make genuine connections on the beach as everyone seems to head to Mexico for the wrong reasons. Hopefully, Riley and Maurissa can continue to inspire other contestants by getting married on the beach where they first met in front of the next season of contestants.
