Batmans New Batmobile Might Be The Most Dangerous Ever

Warning! Spoiler for Batman #106 below.

Batman’s new Batmobile is among his most dangerous and least safe models yet, as it doesn’t have the high-tech systems in place that would prevent a big crash. In Batman #106, the Dark Knight is back on the prowl in Gotham City, where Bruce Wayne reveals that he’s intentionally taken out safety protocols from his new ride in order to fit a bigger engine and make it faster.

In the current Batman arc, Bruce Wayne is no longer a billionaire and he doesn’t have nearly the same amount of resources he previously had as the Caped Crusader following the Joker War. As such, he doesn’t have the same fancy gadgets or tech that he might have had before. One of the biggest changes in Batman’s arsenal is his Batmobile. His new vehicle is a serious downgrade when it comes to upgrades and tech. It’s revealed to basically be a souped-up sports car, that’s made more dangerous by the fact Batman has a need for speed.

In Batman #106 by James Tynion IV, Jorge Jimenez, Tomeu Morey, and Clayton Cowles, Batman is following a lead on a new group of villains in Gotham, the Unsanity Collective. Driving his new Batmobile, Oracle informs him that he’ll be able to intercept the villains “as long as you don’t hit anything.” When she jokes about his pre-crash systems, Batman responds by telling her that the car doesn’t have any collision avoidance systems anymore, as he wanted to put a bigger engine in the vehicle. Batman takes this notion a step further, after Oracle jokes about hoping he didn’t also remove the airbags, he tells her that he would have if it meant the car would go faster.

Batman might have new limitations with his Batmobile now that he doesn’t have his old resource pool, but the fact he’s willing to make the vehicle more dangerous in order to boost its speed is silly, but unsurprising. Batman has never been afraid to put himself in danger in order to stop crime, but removing safeguards from the Batmobile is a pretty bad idea.

Thankfully, Batman has rarely had trouble driving the Batmobile or crashing it unintentionally. However, with the modifications he’s made to his already much-weaker super-car, he better hope he doesn’t take a wrong turn – otherwise, it might spell the end for him. Batman’s new Batmobile is his most dangerous ever, not because of the threat it poses to villains, but because it’s unsafe for him. Batman is making a risky bet that speed is better than safety.
