An upcoming update for Battlefield 2042 will include fixes for various issues such as missing player loadouts, the inability to revive teammates, and vehicle balance changes. The first-person shooter franchise’s newest installment adopts a near-future setting, allowing players to make use of futuristic technology to participate in a global war. While the game was highly anticipated before release, countless technical issues at launch have resulted in an abundance of negative reviews for Battlefield 2042.

Battlefield 2042’s predominantly negative reviews from players are mostly attributed to the game’s wide range of technical problems and performance issues. Currently it sits as one of the worst-reviewed games on Steam, and the number of negative reviews is likely to continue rising without a dramatic patch. The issues currently plaguing the game include frequent console crashes, stuttering framerates, extreme bullet spread and weapon bloom, faulty weapon unlocks and overall poor graphical polish. Players often find themselves randomly unable to respawn after death or revive fallen teammates in battle, leading to great frustration. Battlefield 2042’s loadout bug seems to have run particularly rampant as well, with the issue preventing players from choosing their pre-made loadouts during a match.

In a series of Twitter posts, Battlefield Direct Communication revealed a number of the changes planned for Battlefield 2042’s next patch. While the game’s list of issues is quite massive, this update intends to fix many of the first-person shooter’s most glaring gameplay issues. The bug preventing players from reviving their teammates will hopefully be solved, as will the issues that prevent players from spawning back into a match. The infamous missing loadout bug will also be fixed in the update. The flying UAV-1 vehicle was previously removed from the game for balance purposes, but the update will reportedly bring it back. Finally, the LCAA Hovercraft and MD540 Nightbird aircraft will be receiving balance changes which will reduce the strength of their armor and weapons.

Soldier Revives ⚡ We’re confident that we’ve identified the cause of the issue that was preventing you from always getting off a revive, particularly when a player is in close proximity to nearby geometry. A fix for this is on the way 💡 pic.twitter.com/xlim1KVZFI

UAV-1 Interaction 🔘 We temporarily removed this whilst we could evaluate the best way to keep it balanced, and fun. That work is now complete and we’ll be looking to re-enable this alongside the next update 🎯 pic.twitter.com/tjy6qQnJpi

Vehicle Balancing 🛺 The LCAA Hovercraft will be re-equipped with lighter armor, lowering its health, and we’re tuning down some of its weaponry The MD540 Nightbird will have similar tuning done on it’s weaponry too We’re keeping a close eye on early balance for future changes pic.twitter.com/8qiY8QtqWR

While many franchise fans were rightfully frustrated by the launch of Battlefield 2042, series developer DICE appears to be working hard to improve the state of the sci-fi shooter. A day-one patch for Battlefield 2042, which included major server connection issues experience by early players, was released on November 18. This update served to reduce problems such as “rubber banding” occurrences, which would make other players appear to teleport around due to lag. Player name display and some animations were also improved, showing that DICE is committed to improving the game within the near future.

Battlefield 2042’s abysmal state upon release has already damaged the shooter’s reputation, but it may not be beyond fixing. DICE has already released one patch to address the title’s myriad of issues, improving server connection and reducing lag-related problems. Now the developer promises to fix some of the most highly-criticized issues, such as disappearing loadouts and the inability to spawn, which should make the game much less frustrating. While these promised improvements sound great, only time will tell whether DICE is able to actually save Battlefield 2042’s sullied reputation.
