Beverly Hills 90210 is the classic teen soap opera known for its juicy storylines and romantic love triangles. But some plots just didn’t work.

Classic teen drama Beverly Hills, 90210 is famous for its big moments, like the love triangle between Kelly, Dylan, and Brenda, and the various soap opera-esque situations that have happened over the show’s ten seasons. Fans remember the extreme wealth that the residents of Beverly Hills have and the growing pains that all of the main characters experience.

With so many episodes, not every single plot was a total slam dunk. Here are the 10 most unnecessary storylines on 90210.

10 Brandon Dates A Teen Mother

In the season 1 episode “One Man and a Baby,” Brandon Walsh (Jason Priestley) starts dating a girl at his high school who is a teen mom. While this storyline is meant to show that he’s not ready to be a dad and this type of life is too mature for him, why was this necessary?

Since Brandon’s a teenager, it’s clear that he wouldn’t want kids yet. And since there are many season 1 storylines about the twins learning that the rich kids in Beverly Hills live differently and grow up too fast, this felt like overkill.

9 Jim And Cindy Walsh Tell The Twins That They Can’t Both Go Away For College

The season 3 episode “Highwire” brings bad news for Brandon and his sister Brenda (Shannen Doherty): their parents say that there isn’t enough cash for them to both go away for college.

While it’s always interesting and highly dramatic to watch high schoolers worry about their future, this wasn’t a storyline that should have been included in the show. It’s obvious that Brandon and Brenda would be attending a college nearby… probably a made-up college that all of the characters magically get into. That’s just what happens on these shows.

8 Dylan Hallucinates After His Car Crash

Dylan McKay (Luke Perry) didn’t need to get into a car crash in the fifth season as he was already going down a bad road; this seemed like simply piling on more terrible things in his life. But this storyline got worse when he started having hallucinations and nightmares in the episode “The Dreams of Dylan McKay.”

This wasn’t an episode that viewers could take seriously and it felt like a mistake.

7 Janet Is Having A Baby… But Steve Thinks She Got Plastic Surgery

This is a rather strange storyline: when Janet Sosna (Lindsay Price) is going to let Steve Sanders (Ian Ziering) know that she’s having a baby, he thinks that she got implants. Why would he think that she got plastic surgery?

This is confusing because she’s a prim and proper type of person, so this would be out of character for her. Steve could often be super silly on the show, but this was too much even for him. This storyline should have been altered so Janet simply told Steve in a mature way that she was pregnant.

6 Brandon Invites A Homeless Man Over For Thanksgiving

Sometimes when a TV show has a Thanksgiving episode it’s sweet and moving, but in the case of Beverly Hills, 90210, it was melodramatic.

When Brandon invites a homeless man over for the holiday, his dad fights with him over their political views since he was in the war, and it just feels too cheesy for words.

5 David Considered Marrying Claudia So She Could Get A Green Card

Enough TV shows have featured a character deciding to marry someone so they can get a green card that it just feels so overdone. When David considers marrying Claudia (Christina Fredlund), who works at the Peach Pit After Dark and is from Venezuela, it just doesn’t seem like something he would do.

David is a nice enough guy but he’s not as compassionate or as much of a do-gooder as Brandon, so it would make a lot more sense if Brandon had done this instead.

4 Andrea Gets Pregnant And Married Super Young

Andrea Zuckerman (Gabrielle Carteris) is always very future-focused, and it seems out of character for her to get married and pregnant so young. It just doesn’t feel like something she would do.

This storyline feels unnecessary because it seems like the show was searching for something for Andrea to do instead of giving her a real, legitimate story arc that would fit her character more. Why couldn’t she get an incredible job or something to that effect?

3 Kelly Briefly Suffers From Amnesia

Beverly Hills, 90210 is known for some storylines that are pretty out there since it has the tone of a soap opera, but this one is pretty bad.

In the season 8 episode “The Way We Weren’t,” Kelly briefly suffers from amnesia and can’t recall that she and Brandon are a couple. This just feels too melodramatic even for a show like this one.

2 Kelly And Brenda Fight Over A Role In The School Play

The season 4 episode “Acting Out” sees Kelly Taylor (Jennie Garth) and Brenda fighting over a role in the school play. This is an unnecessary storyline since fans have seen these two best friends fight countless times.

This argument doesn’t add anything new to the already complex relationship that was definitely ruined a long time ago — like when they were fighting over Dylan.

1 Dylan Learns His Dad Is Actually Alive

Jack McKay (Josh Taylor) is never a good father to Dylan, so while it’s tough for him when his dad dies, at least he can move on. The season 10 storyline that involves Dylan learning that Jack is actually alive is pretty ridiculous. It turns out Jack has been in the Witness Protection Program.

If the show was going to kill off this character, then he should have stayed dead. It would have been much better to just make a decision either way. This was a classic example of a show that overstayed its welcome and didn’t know what to do in its tenth and final season.
