The houseguests on every season of Big Brother are always an eclectic bunch who represent people from all walks of life across America. From farmers to businesspersons, surfers, models and moms, every person who enters the house is a character of some kind, with a distinct personality.

This means that often, the things that come out of the houseguests’ mouths are pretty hilarious. It might be because a particular quote completely defines the person who says it, or because it has special meaning in the game, or because it’s just downright silly. Over the years, certain quotes from contestants have stood out from the rest to become truly iconic.

Fruit Loop, What?

“You fruit loop dingus!” — Zach Rance, season 16.

Zach Rance was one of the funniest players ever on Big Brother, so it’s not surprising that he would be responsible for one of the funniest quotes. In anger one day, he was exchanging nasty words with Nicole Franzel when he inexplicably called her a “fruit loop dingus.”

While insults and name-calling should never be tolerated, particularly by adults, the name was so ridiculously juvenile that even Nicole was puzzled by it. The message Zach was trying to get across was heard loud and clear, but his choice of words had everyone laughing instead.

Checks Can Bounce

“This is the Big Brother house. You can bounce checks.” — Mike “Boogie” Malin, season 14.

Fans love this line because it perfectly personifies what Big Brother is all about. Some players are worry about lying, backstabbing, and cheating. Other players, such Mike “Boogie,” believe that kind of behavior is just par for the course when it comes to Big Brother.

He spoke these words to Ian Terry in reference to Jennifer and Maggie after putting them on the block. His point was that, in the Big Brother game, it’s OK to give promises, i.e., “write checks,” without any intention of keeping them, i.e., knowing they’ll bounce.

About Floaters

“Floaters, you’d better grab a life vest!” — Rachel Reilly, season 12.

One of the most quoted lines ever from Big Brother, this comment can apply to any situation in which someone finally decides to no longer put up with others who are sitting back and letting everyone else do the work or failing to take risks.

In this instance, Rachel uttered the words after winning a competition, knowing she would be staying in the house and had some power. She directed the comment to all the players known as “floaters” who simply hid in the background, laying low and hoping to skate to the finale while everyone else did the dirty work. Rachel wasn’t about the let that happen, and it was not only the words but the way she delivered them that was hilarious.

Hating Everyone

“I hate you all. There’s no one I hate more than anyone else.” — Dr. Will Kirby, season 7.

In one of Dr. Will’s most legendary quotes on Big Brother, he declared to the house that he was essentially an equal opportunity hater. He didn’t like any single person in the game and wasn’t afraid to let them all know it.

What made this line so funny was that Will’s arrogance made him comfortable saying it in the first place, especially considering its a game where people must rely on the votes of others to stay. With that said, his begging to be voted out was all part of his reverse-psychology-inspired strategy. His epic monologue continued on to promise that if they kept him, he would throw every competition in retaliation. Ironically, despite being considered one of the best to ever play the game, Dr. Will never won a competition anyway.

Slop Vs. Exes

“Slop, to me, is like an ex-girlfriend: I want nothing to do with it.” — Enzo Palumbo, season 12.

Enzo was such a character and had so many funny things to say. He had everyone cracking up in the house, both the first time he appeared in season 17 and when he returned for All-Stars. But this analogy takes the cake.

Players always dread having to eat a diet of only slop, which is basically just cooked oats, as a punishment. Enzo, however, used this quote to perfectly express how bad it was.

Full Stop

“Your s— has hit the fan. Point. Blank. And the period.” — Da’Vonne Rogers, season 17.

Da’Vonne had some hilarious lines in all the seasons she played, including seasons 17, 18, and 22 All-Stars. But arguably her best was when she confronted Audrey about her supposed scheming in season 17. Da’Vonne wanted Audrey to know that she had been caught trying to play multiple sides and the ruse was over.

What made the line so funny was that instead of saying, “Point blank, period” to emphasize that was that, Da’Vone added the “the,” which suggested she really meant business. Her delivery of the line was truly what made this quote funny, but the words stand on their own too.

Chess Vs. Checkers

“I’m playing chess, not checkers.” — Jackson Michie, season 21.

Jackson said this so many times on his season that it became a running joke. In fact, it even became a meme, one of many Big Brother memes circulating the Internet.

Jackson kept talking about how he wanted to think several moves ahead in the game, thus the comparison to chess. He wasn’t looking for a quick win but wanted to play the long game. The line would have had impact had Jackson said it only once. But the fact that he kept repeating it over and over again is what made it so funny.

Texas Bar Fights

“The challenge is like a Texas bar fight. You get slammed from wall to wall. People pour alcohol and water on your head. And then you wake up the next morning and your testicles hurt.” — Lane, season 12.

Even though he made it to the finals and ultimately came in second, Lane wasn’t the smartest player. But he did have some funny comments, like when he noted in the Diary Room that he had become a member of an alliance known as the Brigade, revealing that he had no idea what a brigade is.

This line, however, during one of the many grueling endurance Head of Household competitions, was a witty one. He not only found a hilarious comparison to make to describe how the competition felt, but he demonstrated how totally Texas he was.

Dessert, Anyone?

“Anybody want cake?” — Libra Thompson, season 10.

This is the kind of quote that requires context. It was Keesha’s birthday and the house had planned a nice cake and gathering to celebrate. But moments before the festivities, a huge verbal fight broke out among houseguests who were yelling and screaming at one another, including Keesha.

They tried to simmer down and gather back together to give Keesha some much-needed attention on her special day, but the result was the saddest rendition ever sung of “Happy Birthday.” Once everyone was done, the moment was followed by awkward silence after which Libra tried to break the ice by muttering this line.

Ring, Ring

“What is this phone doing in the Diary Room? Oh, hey, Janelle. No, Mike Boogie’s not here right now, but I’m actually leaving him a message. Did you want to say something?” — Britney Haynes, season 14.

Britney had so many memorable quotes on Big Brother that a list could of the funniest, all attributed to her, could easily be devised. Among the many, however, this one stands out.

When Mike “Boogie” was evicted, Britney took the opportunity to get revenge for her friend Janelle and leave him a hilarious goodbye message. In it, she mimicked his and Dr. Will’s “Chilltown” diary sessions from the second season in which they pretending to talk on the phone, making fun of all the people they were manipulating in the house. Britney gave him a taste of his own medicine, and seeing Mike’s expression as he watched was priceless, making it even funnier.
