Big Hero 6 New Zootopia Easter Egg Discovered & Confirmed

Everyone loves to spot Easter eggs in movies, and Disney movies are full of them. From Marvel to Star Wars to Disney Pixar movies, the House of Mouse likes to keep fans on their toes with a wide range of hints and clues about other movies within the Disney family. There have been many classic Easter eggs over the years, some more obvious than others, but this newly confirmed Zootopia one might just be the smartest of the lot.

Big Hero 6 was released in 2014, telling the story of Robotics genius Hiro and his healthcare companion, Baymax. The movie also featured Hiro’s friends, Honey Lemon, Wasabi, Go-Go, and Fred. Recent reports suggested that there could be a Zootopia-themed Easter egg in the movie, but no one knew what it was, until now.

Oh My Disney have spotted that during a scene featuring Baymax, Hiro, and their friends, Honey Lemon’s phone case is Zootopia’s Nick Wilde. If you look at the picture below, the phone case is clearly a fox wearing a tie. While you could argue that it might be any fox wearing a tie, Oh My Disney have actually had the Easter egg confirmed by Big Hero 6 Art Director Scott Watanabe, who revealed that Honey’s phone case is based on early concept art for Nick:

“Early on, Honey Lemon’s phone case was designed to look like a bear, to conjure up a “honey” connection, but we came across a few similar designs in our research. I began to think of other animals and Nick Wilde, the fox from Zootopia (which was in production at the time), came to mind. Thought it might be a fun Easter egg for fans to look out for in the film.”

While Zootopia and Big Hero 6 were obviously in production at the same point in time, Big Hero 6 was released in 2014, while Zootopia didn’t arrive until 2016, so it’s little wonder it’s taken so long for the Easter egg to be noticed; you don’t necessarily expect an Easter egg to detail another movie that was so far in advance.

Still, it’s yet another example of why Disney is so good at what they do, and so deserving of the accolades they receive. One question, though. If it’s taken all this time for Nick Wilde to be spotted, what other Easter eggs remain undiscovered in Disney’s back catalog?
