Bill & Ted 10 Things From The Series That Make No Sense

There are certain movies and shows that thrive on being ridiculous from start to finish. There’s no question that the Bill & Ted franchise falls under this rule. The series is notorious for being all kinds of crazy, a point that is used to further the plot.

Still, there’s also something known as in-universe logic, and using this method exposes some of the stuff that doesn’t make sense. It’s hard to believe that movies as wacky as these ones might have elements like this, so it’s worth checking out what these are. That said, here are 10 things from the Bill & Ted movies that don’t make sense.

10 Bill And Ted’s Inconsistent Dim Nature

There have been similar protagonists to these two in other movies, although those have been standalone films. In the case of Bill and Ted, their boneheaded nature is all over the place. For the most part, they are completely clueless and out of their element, while on other occasions are capable of real wit.

This wouldn’t be that much of an issue if their witty moments were carried forward. However, the pair somehow come to a solution for a problem and then regress to their dumb personalities in the next scene.

9 The Future Civilization’s Advancement

Somehow, the songs and wacky sayings of the lead pair led to the future Earth becoming a utopia. And yet, it doesn’t explain how they became such an advanced civilization. After all, being influenced by Bill and Ted would mean people would have to become less intelligent.

Even the mannerisms of the people in the future were those of slackers, making highly dubious how they managed to have genius mentalities when their great philosophers’ message was largely for people to waste their time.

8 Phone Booth Design For A Time Machine

Out-of-universe, the original plan was to make a van out to be the time machine in this series, but the creators decided on a phone booth instead. While it aligns with the movies’ crazy nature, it doesn’t exactly explain why a phone booth specifically is the appearance of this machine.

It doesn’t exactly blend in with times where there are no phones, nor is it the most spacious of places to fit in. Overall, there’s no real reason why a phone booth is the only option for time machine layouts.

7 Figures From The Past Being So Casual About Time Travel

By the evidence shown in the movies, the history of Bill & Ted is exactly the same as in the real world. If that’s the case, then there should be no way that feared warlords like Genghis Khan and Napoleon should be so cool with time travel.

Not only that, but they shouldn’t also have been so casual about finding themselves in the future, as these characters seemed to have adapted very easily to the fact that they were centuries out of their own time.

6 Death’s Entire Personality

Sure, the films are supposed to be a joke that newer movies can rarely match, but considering Death tried to put up the act of being the representation of all doom and gloom, it doesn’t make sense why he was also a pretty cool dude.

This being was capable of understanding laughter and hilarity, but there’s nothing to suggest that this was by design. So, why is Death such an overall easy-going personality of his job is to collect the deceased?

5 The Boys Becoming Losers By Each Sequel

One of the few things that haven’t aged well about the series is that everything the boys do doesn’t seem to have a lasting impact on them personally. They were successful in passing their exam in the first movie, but we’re down on their luck in the second. Similarly, they managed to save the day in the sequel, but are middle-aged losers in Face the Music.

It doesn’t really do well for the series to have every adventure become meaningless, especially considering each of the boys’ experiences were outright shown to have made a difference within each particular movie.

4 No Ripple Effect From Interfering With History

Despite all the craziness that unfolded in the first film, the boys made sure to return each historical figure back in their rightful place in time. However, it doesn’t explain what change must have presented into these personalities.

After all, even the murderous men turned out to be rather friendly, making it hard to believe they would simply resume their evil ways in the past. Along with that, displacing these people and having them interact with one another should’ve had some ripple in time, but it didn’t seem to be any real threat.

3 The Ease With Which Death Can Be Defeated

There are only a few movies that can get away with stuff as ridiculous as the ones found in this series. One of these is how Bill and Ted outsmarted the Grim Reaper himself. Not only did they firstly escape by giving him a wedgie, but they also returned to life by beating him in games.

If it’s that easy to avert one’s demise, then shouldn’t there have been many people on Earth who had the same idea? The ease with which Death was defeated makes it highly unlikely that nobody else bought their lives back like the boys did.

2 The Moment Characters Time Travel To

Bill & Ted 10 Things From The Series That Make No Sense

There are several times in the films where the main characters go to the future to meet their older versions in order to complete their adventure. The second film’s end had the boys use the time machine to perfect their music and save the day.

However, if this can be done, then why don’t Rufus and the rest simply time travel and approach the future Bill and Ted in the first place? It doesn’t make sense to make the younger versions go through all that trouble if one could just get the guys who have already been successful. It would save everyone’s time and avoid any major catastrophes.

1 Bill And Ted Passing Their Exam

The reason why the lead characters passed their exams came down to them bringing the historical figures to their classroom. This ended up working as the information provided by the figures was obviously accurate. And yet, this can’t really be acceptable in a real classroom, can it? The boys were supposed to do the project themselves, meaning they should actually have been disqualified.

By the logic Bill and Ted employed, anyone could bring a person from the outside and have them claim to be someone from the past. Of course, considering all the hijinks seen in the film, this wasn’t supposed to be a point to ponder over. But once one does think about it, the boys should have failed their exam all along.
