Black Adam Producer Reveals What Pierce Brosnan Brings to Dr Fate

Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia explains what Pierce Brosnan brings to Doctor Fate. Dwayne Johnson’s turn as Black Adam has been hotly anticipated in the DCEU. The star has been attached to play the ancient Egyptian anti-hero for over a decade, although initially, the plans were for him to appear as a villain in David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! movie, as well as in an earlier version of The Suicide Squad. But given his massive star power, DC Films and WB found Johnson better suited for a solo film, so they spun his character off into a present-day Black Adam movie. Filming on Black Adam took place between April and August 2021, and now the film is scheduled to premiere on July 29, 2022.

This Saturday, fans got their first look at Black Adam during the DC FanDome when a small clip from the movie revealed Johnson’s antihero’s thrilling superpowers. At the event, some BTS footage from the making of the movie was also unveiled, and it offered a quick glimpse at some of the members of the Justice Society of America (JSA), who are primed to make their DCEU debut with the film. As confirmed earlier, Black Adam will see Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Aldis Hodge as Hawkman. Additionally, former James Bond actor, Pierce Brosnan, is also playing a JSA superhero. He will appear as Kent Nelson/Doctor Fate, a master sorcerer who has been given the helmet of Fate.

The anticipation to witness Brosnan’s turn as Kent is decidedly high, and now, Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia has hyped his role even more. Recently, in a conversation with The Illuminderi, Garcia opened up what Brosnan is offering to his character and the film in general. He also teased Fate’s role within the JSA, elaborating on his relationship with his fellow superheroes. The producer explained that Brosnan is skilled in his craft and his mere presence on the screen “elevates everything up.” Talking about the actor’s role, he said that Doctor Fate, along with Hawkman, is one of the more senior members of the JSA. The character has a rich history, and the way Brosnan “taps” into it is simply fascinating. Read what Garcia said below:

“When you’re looking at Pierce Brosnan, who is an OG as, as best as you could describe it, he just blows you away. From the moment he comes on, on set, he just elevates everything up. He just is so charming,” Garcia explained. “He has such a command of just presence on screen I think the minute he goes on there. And seeing him with all of our young actors as well, it’s so fun to see them just hang with him, get to know him. They all became such close friends on this process and were hanging so much offset on downtime. And you could feel that energy and that chemistry when they were on screen. He was such a dream casting.”

“Dr. Fate is such a special character and he is, in essence, he and Hawkman are the elder statesman in a universe like this,” Garcia continued. “They’ve been around for a very long time. They both have fascinating histories. Pierce was able to tap into that weight, that poise that comes with millennia of wisdom as being Dr. Fate and what comes with that helmet. I think he was able to tap into that in a special way for us. And in the process, you could just feel it lift up the rest of the cast. Because anytime you had James Bond coming in and now he’s stepping in, and now he’s becoming, like you said, Kent Nelson, becoming Dr. Fate, it’s a very cool thing. And the chemistry he was able to create with the actors from that was really special.”

While Garcia is in all praises of Brosnan, the actor, too, has echoed similar sentiments about Black Adam and the people involved with it. In a recent interview, he called the movie an ensemble, emphasizing that he and the rest of the JSA stars have become a “strong quartet of actors” in the film. Before that, he also praised Johnson, stating that he has “great admiration for him and what he’s created for himself in life.” Brosnan is the actor who has played James Bond four times. So for him to be impressed by Black Adam, is definitely no small feat for the movie.

Garcia’s new comments reflect Brosnan’s impeccable work ethic and tease his delectable role in the movie. Brosnan has always been known for his commanding screen presence, and it’s delightful that he is bringing this quality back for Black Adam. Right now, details about his role as Doctor Fate aren’t plentiful. In fact, so far viewers haven’t even gotten a proper look at him in costume. Still, despite the dearth of information, fans are stoked to see him embody his role as the senior JSA superhero, and they are confident that he will turn out to be one of the most enigmatic and gripping characters to ever exist in the DCEU. Future teasers and trailers for Black Adam will likely reveal a bit more about Brosnan’s role as Doctor Fate, presumably teasing his dynamic with Johnson’s Man in Black.
