Warning! This article contains spoilers for Giant-Size Black Cat: Infinity Score #1

The greatest thief in the Marvel Universe, Felicia Hardy aka Black Cat has set her sights on the Infinity Stones which have been embedded in certain superpowered individuals, and on her mission she runs into and bests Marvel’s version of Batman. The caped vigilante known as Nighthawk is also after the stones as he wishes to restore an alternate reality in which he and Black Cat are together, and needs to defeat this version of Felecia to reach that goal. Unfortunately for Nighthawk, Black Cat is not so easily defeated and finds a way to get the better of Marvel’s Batman.

In Giant-Size Black Cat: Infinity Score #1 by Jed MacKay, C.F. Villa, Brian Reber, and Ferran Delgado, Black Cat recruits a number of characters who hold the power of the Infinity Stones including Star, Overtime, and Quantum. Felicia is pulling this score to help an A.I.M. scientist who is dying of an incurable disease and needs to use the power of the stones to survive. To find the stone hosts, Black Cat stole a stone scanner from Nick Fury who has sent a stroke team after Felicia to get it back. Incidentally, Nick Fury stole that stone scanner from Nighthawk who wants the stones to restore an alternate universe. In this issue, everything comes to a head pitting Black Cat against Nighthawk for final possession of the stone hosts.

Black Cat and Nighthawk square off inside of a hospital where Nick Fury has also sent his stroke force to take back his stolen tech. Nighthawk originally asks for Black Cat’s help by requesting the scanner, a request Black Cat promptly denies. Instead, Black Cat fights it out with Nighthawk in the hospital where a number of superpowered stone hosts are, and she uses the powerful being to her advantage. The stone host known as Star bursts into the area in which Black Cat and Nighthawk are fighting, and Black Cat puts Marvel’s Batman in her line of fire. While Nighthawk is a skilled fighter and vigilante, he is no match for the raw power of the Time Stone incarnate that is Star and she effectively incapacitates the vigilante, getting him out of Black Cat’s hair for good.

Black Cat doesn’t use her strength or fighting skill to take down Nighthawk, she uses her intelligence. When she first encountered Marvel’s Batman before they started fighting, Black Cat was nervous about the impending battle between them as she wasn’t sure she could take the vigilante. Using the powerfully unstable characters around her, she launched Star into the fight in her stead, who proved to be more than capable in defeating Nighthawk.

The defeat of Marvel’s Batman was orchestrated by Black Cat while being carried out by a being with far greater power, proving Black Cat’s intelligence in battle. Plus, with Black Cat’s power of projecting bad luck on her foes, the arrival of Star may not have been coincidental but, instead, the bad luck of Nighthawk brought to life. No matter the circumstances surrounding the fight, Black Cat just bested Marvel’s Batman without hardly breaking a sweat.
