Black Widow’s Florence Pugh Confirmed For Marvel’s Hawkeye Show

The main cast for Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye series starring Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton and Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop has been revealed, and it includes Florence Pugh’s return as Yelena Belova. As part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s move to Disney+, characters like Hawkeye will finally get the chance to lead a project. The Hawkeye series has been in the works for a few years now but just started filming in Brooklyn, New York. Thanks to set photos, this is how it was finally confirmed that Steinfeld would play Kate Bishop in the MCU.

Even though production is now underway on Hawkeye, Disney and Marvel Studios haven’t revealed too much about the series. Renner is the only officially announced cast member. Steinfeld’s addition is now unofficially confirmed thanks to her presence on set, but who else might appear was unknown. Characters from the comics associated with both archers were expected to be included, while recent rumors pointed to Florence Pugh returning as Yelena Belova after her debut in Black Widow.

According to Variety, Florence Pugh is set to reprise her Black Widow role in Hawkeye, as she is one of six new additions to the cast. It is unknown how Yelena Belova will factor into the series, but it will mark her second MCU appearance. In addition to Pugh’s return, the cast now includes Vera Farmiga as Kate Bishop’s mother, Fra Fee as Kazi aka the Clown, Tony Dalton as Jack Duquesne aka Swordsman, Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez aka Echo, and Zahn McClarnon as Echo’s father.

The return of Florence Pugh for Hawkeye could be a potential spoiler for Black Widow, depending on what expectations fans had for the movie. A prominent theory was that she died in the film, which is why Natasha wore a similar green jacket in Avengers: Infinity War, but she clearly isn’t dead at this point in the MCU. Hawkeye is confirmed to take place primarily after Avengers: Endgame and Black Widow’s death, so the loss of Natasha could be what brings Yelena and Clint together.

As for the rest of Hawkeye’s cast, Marvel has once again found a talented collection of actors to join the latest MCU property. Farmiga is the bunch’s biggest name, thanks to her roles in Bates Motel and the Conjuring franchise. Her casting as Kate’s mother is particularly interesting, as it could point to Eleanor having a more significant role. In the comics, she has ties to Madame Masque, who is rumored to be Hawkeye’s villain. Since an actress for Madame Masque hasn’t been revealed, Farmiga could even be the one who ultimately plays her.

Meanwhile, the comics fans will likely be thrilled to see Swordsman’s role in Hawkeye confirmed, especially with Dalton taking on the part after playing Lalo Salamanca in Better Call Saul. Many might also remember McClarnon for his memorable stint on Westworld, and it should be fascinating to see him put his spin on a character who has the nickname “Crazy Horse” in the comics. Fee has appeared in various projects, with his biggest credit to date coming in Les Misérables, while Cox is a newcomer who now has a role with the potential to be important to the MCU’s future. Based on how Hawkeye’s filming has gone so far, it might not be long before some of these cast members are spotted on set too.
