Taylor Swift just announced that her next music video is the directorial debut of actress Blake Lively. Starting in April 2021, the iconic pop star has been re-releasing her early albums with all-new recordings because the original masters were sold off and no longer belong to her. The albums have come along with a bonanza of publicity, featuring new tracks written in the era of each album but never released as well as a bunch of new video content. This week, on November 12, Taylor released her second re-recorded album, Red (Taylor’s Version),

This music video will be Swift’s first collaboration with Blake Lively, who first rose to prominence on the soapy teen drama Gossip Girl, which ran from 2007 to 2012 on the CW. After the series ended, she transitioned into being a film actress, starring in films like the giant shark survival movie The Shallows, the suburban crime thriller A Simple Favor, and the action flick The Rhythm Section. She hasn’t had a lot of experience behind the camera, though Lively will be producing the upcoming Liane Moriarty film adaptation The Husband’s Secret, which she is also starring in.

Today on her Twitter, Taylor Swift posted a short clip of a wedding cake having a huge hunk ripped out of it. She gushed, “I finally got to work with the brilliant, brave, & wickedly funny [Blake Lively] on her directorial debut. Join us as we raise a toast, and a little hell.” This clip is from the upcoming music video for “I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault),” which looks like it will feature Taylor performing at a wedding (probably Blake Lively’s) where chaos ensues. The video will premiere tomorrow, November 15, at 10 AM ET. Check out the post below:

Taylor Swift has made a habit of packing her music videos with celebrity cameos. Her video for the 2014 single “Bad Blood” featured an all-out war between stars like Selena Gomez, Lena Dunham, and Hailee Steinfeld, who will be playing Kate Bishop in Hawkeye, which premieres later this month. She also cast a roster of LGBTQ celebrities in her haters-back-off anthem “You Need to Calm Down,” including Laverne Cox, Billy Porter, Ellen DeGeneres, and the Fab Five from Queer Eye.

Considering her track record, it’s surprising it took her this long to partner with Blake Lively. However, she’s committing to the “better late than never” ideal by giving Lively’s fans a brand new way to see the star: through her own lens. It will be interesting to see if this music video kicks off a drive to direct more media and start a whole new chapter in her career.
