Bobs Burgers 10 Best Mr Fischoeder Episodes

Dating back to the early days of animated comedy series, The Flintstones helped to establish the boss/rich-guy type of character whose main role is to antagonize or motivate the main characters. The Flintstones had Mr. Slate. The Simpsons have Montgomery Burns. Family Guy has Carter Pewterschmidt, and, as Fox’s most recent success story, Bob’s Burgers follows suit with Calvin Fischoeder.

A small-town Bond villain, Mr. Fischoeder is the ambitious yet flamboyant proprietor of many of Ocean’s Avenue’s business and real estate and is the mastermind behind a lot of Bob Belcher’s stress. Considerably more likable than his archetypal predecessors yet still enterprising to a fault, Mr. Fischoeder is behind and a core part of several great episodes in Bob’s Burgers.

10 The Deepening

Talk about jumping the shark. When Mr. Fischoeder becomes desperate to bring in new customers to the Wonder Wharf, Bob and his kids recommend that he buy the mechanical shark from an ’80s movie that was shot there and use it as an attraction. Mr. Fischoeder does just that, but he mistakenly fills the metal beast with diesel fuel.

This makes the shark go ballistic on the wharf and town. As the shark becomes more and more hazardous, it’s up to Teddy to face his old fears and stop it—and then it’s up to Bob to save Teddy. Bob and Teddy struggle to stop a mechanical land shark while Mr. Fischoeder tries to flee from liability.

9 An Indecent Thanksgiving Proposal

In one of animated comedy television’s greatest holiday episodes, “An Indecent Thanksgiving Proposal” highlights Bob’s dedication for the holiday when Mr. Fischoeder tries to buy his Thanksgiving Day from him.

Mr. Fischoeder has become smitten with a woman who’s attracted to married men, so he offers Bob and Linda hefty compensation to cater his Thanksgiving date with both food and a fake family. Linda and the kids oblige, leaving Bob to seethe in his own loneliness and jealousy. While Mr. Fischoeder woos his “date” and the rest of the Belchers have fun as his fake family, Bob grows increasingly angered in the kitchen.

8 The Kids Run The Restaurant

When Linda has to suddenly bring Bob to the hospital, the kids are in charge of the restaurant and turn its basement into their own casino. One of the lessons that the fans learn in this episode is to be wary of very inexperienced, very awkward doctors—and another is that kids shouldn’t be trusted with running casinos.

Even some casinos run by adults are a little shady, but one under the Belcher kids is just asking for trouble, especially when Mr. Fischoeder scouts it out. Discovering an operation that wreaks of gullibility, Mr. Fischoeder shows that, while the house always wins, the landlord of the house wins even more and begins hustling the kids, and, by extension, the entire Belcher family out of more money.

7 The Last Gingerbread House On The Left

Mr. Fischoeder just has a way of taking holidays away from Bob, and the situation is no different in one of Fox’s greatest animated Christmas specials. In “The Last Gingerbread House on the Left,” Mr. Fischoeder hires Bob to win a gingerbread house-making competition against some of his affluent friends.

Given that he could hardly afford gifts for his kids, Bob agrees and leaves with Mr. Fischoeder while the rest of the family tries to bring back Christmas caroling, inadvertently proving why they went away in the first place. Bob then ventures into the complex and passively aggressive hierarchy of Mr. Fischoeder’s friends. When he discovers what the prize for the competition is, he begins contemplating turning on Mr. Fischoeder.

6 Dawn Of The Peck

In “Dawn of the Peck,” Mr. Fischoeder and his brother Felix arrange a Thanksgiving Festival for the town, called the “Turk-tacular Turkey Town Festival,” and make its marquee event a “Turkey Trot.” It’s like the Running of the Bulls except with turkeys—except there’s barely any turkeys, too.

Felix fails to get a strong assortment of turkeys given the Thanksgiving holiday and tries padding out the race with a variety of other birds. This has the inadvertent effect of driving all of the birds wild; instead of running alongside the humans, they begin ceaselessly pecking at them. As always, it’s up to the Belchers to stop another one of the Fischoeder family’s strange attractions.

5 Topsy

Mr. Fischoeder isn’t always the bad guy or catalyst for conflict for the series; more often than not, Mr. Fischoeder and his eccentric ways are great in a supporting role that compliments whatever quirky adventure the Belcher family has cooked up.

In “Topsy,” Tina needs help with her science project, and, as the Belcher family always does, she turns her research on Thomas Edison and his infamous shock test on an elephant into a musical performance. Providing the vocals are none other than her Aunt Gayle and Mr. Fischoeder, who, in addition to re-enacting the sordid relationship between Edison and his elephant, have their own share of sparks in the background.

4 Wharf Horse (Or How Bob Saves/Destroys The Town-Part I)

While Wonder Wharf may not be the shiniest seaside carnival around, it’s still Mr. Fischoeder’s biggest project, and, as Tina put it, the heart of the town. However, his rides are falling apart, and the wharf as a whole is failing to bring in customers. This inspires Felix to try and convert the area into condominiums.

However, after seeing how resistant his brother is towards sacrificing the wharf, he brings in Bob’s help, promising him a new bistro along the development property if he can turn his brother to the idea. While Bob initially agrees and succeeds in convincing Mr. Fischoeder, he changes his mind after seeing how much the wharf means to his kids and the town.

3 World Wharf II (Or How Bob Saves/Destroys The Town-Parts II)

At the end of “Wharf Horse,” Bob succeeds in convincing Mr. Fischoeder to turn his beloved wharf into seaside condominiums only to succeed again in convincing him otherwise. Enraged that Bob had broken his deal with him, Felix Fischoeder kidnaps Bob and his brother and ties them up beneath the pier of the wharf to drown them when the tides come up, creating a cliffhanger for the next episode.

In “World Wharf II,” Bob and Mr. Fischoeder desperately try to call for help while the Belchers and their friends use the best of their deductive abilities to find Bob.

2 The Taking Of Funtime One Two Three

While Bob’s Burgers is absolutely loaded with pop culture references, the series doesn’t often rely on genre parodies to fuel their stories. In one of the few instances that they do, Mr. Fischoeder tries to stage a heist and enlists the Belcher kids and their friends in an effort to game a local arcade that his been competing with the wharf.

He coaches the kids as to how to beat some infamous carnival games and helps them arrange an efficient plan to quickly and quietly win the arcade’s biggest prize, a dune buggy. However, when the heist for a children’s toy is set into motion, Mr. Fischoeder reveals another scheme under his sleeve. In the eat-or-be-eaten world of arcade games, how will the kids respond?

1 The Oeder Games

In one of Mr. Fischoeder’s best outings to date, he shows his massive wealth and influence in “The Oeder Games” and forces all of his tenants to compete for affordable rent. In a much milder version of The Hunger Games that utilizes water balloons, the Belchers try to survive a wet onslaught while also trying to maintain peace and rationality with their friends.

Mr. Fischoeder is literally playing games with them and pitting his impoverished tenants against each other. Bob understands that he needs to get all of his friends and neighbors to work together to save their homes and business, but, with a water balloon in every hand, how will he talk over all the chaos?
