Book Of Boba Fett Can Deliver On The Mandalorians Initial Promise

Lucasfilm could be using The Book of Boba Fett t0 deliver on The Mandalorian’s initial promise. Not long after the success of the Jon Favreau-created series for Disney+, a string of spin-off projects have been greenlit. That includes The Book of Boba Fett, which will see Temuera Morrison reprising his iconic Star Wars role as he explores the space opera’s criminal underworld.

After months of rumors claiming that the classic Star Wars bounty hunter was making his return, Lucasfilm finally confirmed speculation in The Mandalorian season 2, episode 1, “Chapter 9: The Marshal.” The episode ended with a shot of Boba Fett looking over the Tatooine dunes while Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu zipped through the planet following their team-up with Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant). Fast forward to the end of The Mandalorian season 2, the Book of Boba Fett spin-off was officially confirmed with a shot of Boba Fett and his trusted ally, Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) killing Bib Fortuna (Matthew Wood) and taking over Jabba the Hutt’s palace.

As it nears its release, the Star Wars show has been unveiled its first look, offering an idea of what to expect from it. The Book of Boba Fett trailer itself is still a little bit ambiguous, but it sees Boba Fett redefining the laws of the criminal underworld of Tatooine by being a crime lord that leads with respect and not fear. He and Fennec then go have a conversation with various gang leaders and members who previously worked with Jabba in an effort to execute the new system under his directorship. Based on everything that’s been revealed about The Book of Boba Fett thus far, it seems like it’s aiming to deliver on The Mandalorian’s initial promise. It can be remembered that the first Star Wars live-action show teased the exploration of gritty underworld bounty hunters operate in. The marketing heavily implied that the series would primarily be about Din carrying out missions where he’s met with various adversaries. But despite its trailers, that’s not what The Mandalorian came out to be — at least in its first two seasons.

Instead, it revolved around Din’s accidental role as Grogu’s father figure. To be fair, the series’ marketing campaign wasn’t maliciously misleading. It’s just that the existence of Baby Yoda had to be kept tightly under wraps until the very end of The Mandalorian’s premiere. Mando did try to deliver the bounty to The Client (Werner Herzog), but realized quickly that he couldn’t leave a harmless child with sketchy people who might want to only harm him. Granted that the initial premise of the show has already been resolved with the arrival of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) at the end of The Mandalorian season 2, now, its focus shifts towards the conflict surrounding Darksaber’s ownership. Din being the rightful wielder of the black-bladed weapon effectively pits him against Bo-Katan Kyrze (Katee Sackhoff). Because of this, there’s a very slim chance that he could simply go back to his bounty hunting days.

Book of Boba Fett, on the other hand, will be fully immersed in the Star Wars underworld. The teaser itself highlighted this by showing Boba Fett and Fennec encountering various players in the largely explored aspect of the space opera. It even uses the tagline “EVERY GALAXY HAS AN UNDERWORLD” further emphasizing the idea. So while The Mandalorian deals with more mythical things, the upcoming Disney+ Star Wars show can be the boots-on-the-ground series that it was initially perceived to be.
