Book of Boba Fett Will Make Mandalorians Tusken Raiders Twist Even Better

The new trailer for The Book of Boba Fett briefly features Tatooine’s iconic Tusken Raiders, a potential tease that the new series coming to Disney+ will improve upon the twist seen in The Mandalorian season 2. While Tusken Raiders made their first appearance in 1977’s Star Wars as a brutal and merciless people, The Mandalorian Din Djarin proved that they can be reasoned with, and that cooperation with the Sand People is indeed possible. Now, The Book of Boba Fett could see the former titular bounty hunter following suit and integrating the Tusken Raiders into his plans, especially considering the fact that he may have a past with the mysterious desert tribes.

In the premiere episode of The Mandalorian season 2, Din Djarin looks for other Mandalorians to help him with the youngling in his care, Grogu, and his search brought him back to the desert world of Tatooine. While he doesn’t find any true Mandalorians, he does cross paths with Marshal Cobb Vanth, the man who discovered Boba Fett’s armor after the bounty hunter’s unfortunate encounter with a Sarlacc Pit in Return of the Jedi. Furthermore, Din Djarin agrees to help Vanth and the settlers under his protection take down a Krayt dragon that has been terrorizing them, in exchange for the armor. Mando also forges an alliance between the settlers and the Sand People who want the dragon killed as well. The end of the episode confirms Fett’s survival, wearing robes in place of his iconic armor and wielding a gaderffii stick—the traditional weapon of a Tusken Raider.

Now, the trailer for The Book of Boba Fett features Fett in the aftermath of The Mandalorian season 2, his armor restored and back in his possession. He’s also intending to take over the operations of the late Jabba the Hutt, taking over his palace and looking to become Tattooine’s newest crime lord, using respect over fear. “Why speak of conflict when cooperation can make us all rich?”, he says to a room full of Jabba’s former captains. The trailer also features a shot of a group of Tusken Raiders, potentially teasing that Boba will be looking to foster cooperation with them as well.

In addition to addressing Fett’s mysterious past and answering the decades-old question of how he survived the Sarlacc, it’s possible the upcoming series could explore the character’s relationship with the Sand People. Did he take a gaderffii stick after fighting the Tuskens, or was it given to him as a sign of respect? Either way, the trailer confirms that they will be featured in some capacity. If Fett can somehow integrate them into his plans for a new criminal empire, it would certainly provide him with some unique assets no other crime lord has.

In any case, Boba Fett’s upcoming series has an opportunity to flesh out one of the most iconic groups in the Star Wars galaxy. While The Mandalorian proved that there’s more to the Sand People than meets the eye, The Book of Boba Fett can go deeper, improving upon the Tusken Raider twist when the series starts streaming December 29th on Disney+.
