Sasuke Uchiha is among the strongest known characters in the Boruto series right now, considered to be a shinobi equal to the Seventh Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki. Thanks to his Rinnegan, Sasuke has been crucial to the world by tracking down the movement of the Otsutsuki Clan and gaining intel on them.

In the recent events of the Boruto manga, Sasuke Uchiha ended up losing his Rinnegan as it was stabbed by none other than Boruto Uzumaki and while this decision makes sense to some, it doesn’t sit well with quite a lot of fans.

10 MAKES SENSE: Sasuke Uchiha Was Too Powerful & Needed To Be Nerfed

With half the powers of the Sage of Six Paths, Sasuke was on an entirely different level when compared to the other shinobi in the story. He was one of the only two characters strong enough to put up a fight against the likes of the Otsutsuki and this made him a trump card against them.

However, this story isn’t about Sasuke Uchiha, and at some point, he had to be nerfed. Whether the way Kishimoto chose to write it was okay or not, the fact remains that it was needed.

9 DOESN’T: A Shinobi Of Sasuke’s Caliber Shouldn’t Be Taken By Surprise

Sasuke Uchiha is an extremely capable shinobi, as evident from the fact that he’s fought the likes of Obito Uchiha, Madara Uchiha, Kaguya Otsutsuki, and even Momoshiki over the years.

For him to be taken by surprise from Boruto, who wasn’t even a complete Otsutsuki at this point, doesn’t make much sense. Sasuke certainly should’ve been able to avoid the hit with ease.

8 MAKES SENSE: He Belongs To The Old Generation & Needs To Be Less Relevant

Boruto: Naruto Next Generations features a lot of the characters from the Naruto series, but the focus of the story is on the next generation of shinobi.

So far, Sasuke Uchiha and Naruto Uzumaki were at the forefront of things, but now, other characters such as Konohamaru and those in his generation will have to step up and make up for things that the likes of Sasuke can’t pull off anymore.

7 DOESN’T: The Rinnegan Can Let The User Heal Themselves

The Rinnegan is known to be the strongest of the Three Great Dojutsu and there are several reasons for that. One is the fact that it allows the user to heal themselves.

Using the power of the King of Hell, a Rinnegan user can overcome any damage that has been dealt to them and recover within a matter of seconds. While it is true that Sasuke doesn’t have the Rinnegan to access its powers, characters like Madara have been seen using its abilities without even having the eye.

6 MAKES SENSE: He Was Up Against A Strong Enemy Who Is Capable Of Killing Him

Sasuke Uchiha lost his Rinnegan to Momoshiki Otsutsuki shortly after Naruto’s fight against Isshiki Otsutsuki concluded. Just as everything appeared to be done, Momoshiki Otsutsuki took control of Boruto’s body, took Sasuke by surprise, and stabbed his eye with a kunai.

Considering the fact that it was Momoshiki who attacked Sasuke, the shinobi losing his Rinnegan makes a lot of sense.

5 DOESN’T: It Took Away Sasuke’s Biggest Strength

Sasuke Uchiha’s biggest strength in the Boruto series was his ability to use the Rinnegan to shift dimensions, teleport, and track down the Otsutsuki. Without all these things, Sasuke’s character has now been reduced to one who can’t really do anything special.

Sasuke is now on a human level of strength and is more or less irrelevant without his ability. While Sasuke still has the Mangekyo Sharingan, considering that the threat they face is Otsutsuki level, it is pretty much useless.

4 MAKES SENSE: It Gives Boruto A Reason To Get Stronger

Momoshiki Otsutsuki took control of Boruto’s body and used it to stab Sasuke Uchiha’s eye. Although Boruto knows it’s not his fault that this happened, a part of him can’t help but blame himself.

Boruto would feel a need to make up for what he did, and the best thing to do would be to suppress Momoshiki by growing several times stronger than he already is. In this regard, Sasuke losing his eye isn’t all that bad.

3 DOESN’T: Sasuke Losing His Eye Was Used As A Clichéd Plot Device

Sasuke is the teacher of Boruto Uzumaki and thus serves an important role in the story aside from already protecting Konohagakure. By making Sasuke weaker, Kishimoto has now opened up a path for the likes of Boruto and Sarada to grow stronger and take over.

While that’s not entirely bad, it is a very clichéd plot device and one that’s been repeated far too often in the Naruto series already.

2 MAKES SENSE: It Puts The New Genin On The Front To Take Charge

While how it was achieved isn’t all that great, the loss of Sasuke’s Rinnegan will lead to the next generation of shinobi taking charge of the age, and that’s a good thing for the series.

Fans have often wondered why the likes of Mitsuki and Sarada aren’t as relevant to the story, but with Naruto and Sasuke’s roles reduced quite a lot, a path toward more action opens up for these characters.

1 DOESN’T: Sasuke’s Sharingan Should’ve Prevented His Injury

Sasuke Uchiha is a user of the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan, which is known to be the strongest form of this eye. One of the biggest abilities of the Sharingan is to read and perceive movements that regular people can’t see.

Sasuke’s eyes are great enough to perceive the movements of Isshiki and Momoshiki Otsutsuki yet he got stabbed quite easily by Boruto Uzumaki. That shouldn’t have happened given the fact that he had access to the Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan.
