Bosch season 7 is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video, but will there be a Bosch season 8? The landmark show is the streaming platform’s longest-running Amazon Original Series and is appreciated by audiences for its mystery, gritty atmosphere, and quality acting. Here’s what’s next for the popular crime drama.
After seven seasons of following Michael Connelly’s Harry Bosch, the Amazon show is coming to an end. Bosch season 7 will be the show’s final installment, but that’s not the end of the story for the character. While Bosch may be ending, the good news is, fans haven’t seen the last of Harry Bosch yet, with more stories currently in the works.
In Bosch season 7, Harry is deeply affected by the death of 10-year-old girl Sonia Hernandez in an arson fire. Over the course of the final season, he becomes increasingly frustrated with the red-tape and rules of the bureaucracy, a running theme through the Amazon show’s seven seasons. This will play a role in setting up Harry Bosch’s future as a big chapter comes to a close in the Bosch season 7 finale. And this is where the Bosch spin-off show by IMDb TV is expected to pick up the story.
Bosch Season 8 Renewal
Bosch has not been renewed for season 8, but the currently untitled spin-off will continue with Harry Bosch’s story. The show will be an IMDb TV Original and the first series spin-off for Amazon Studios. Though technically a spin-off, in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, star Titus Welliver confirmed that the new Bosch series will really be a continuation of Harry Bosch’s story as told in the Amazon Original series. Given that the spin-off will be in partnership with Amazon Studios and share the same creative team as the original series — including creators Michael Connelly and Eric Overmyer, who will be executive producing the show along with Tom Bernardo, Henrick Bastin, and Titus Welliver — it’s safe to say that Harry Bosch will be in good hands.
Bosch Season 8 Cast
The Bosch spin-off series of the Amazon Prime show will star Titus Welliver as Detective Harry Bosch, Madison Lintz as Maddie Bosch, and Mimi Rogers as Honey Chandler. Other characters from the long-running Amazon crime drama can also be expected to crossover to the IMDb TV Original series in lead and supporting roles, as the show continues to adapt storylines from Michael Connelly’s best-selling novels.
Bosch Season 8 Story: Which Books It Could Adapt
The new IMDb TV show will continue to follow Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) as he embarks on the next chapter of his career, which finds him working alongside Honey “Money” Chandler (Mimi Rogers). While Bosch season 7 is largely adapted from Connelly’s 2014 novel, The Burning Room, some plot elements for the final season also came from The Concrete Blonde, a novel written 20 years earlier in 1992.
Given the fact that the show has jumped around over the last seven seasons, many of the books in Connelly’s Harry Bosch series are still fair game. But as the show’s plot moves forward along with the novels, the spin-off will likely take much of its inspiration from the more recently published books in the series. These include The Crossing (2015), The Wrong Side of Goodbye (2016), Two Kinds of Truth (2017), Dark Sacred Night (2018), The Night Fire (2019), and The Dark Hours (2021). It’s important to note that many of these later novels also feature Bosch’s half-brother Mickey Haller, a character who will be the main protagonist in Connelly’s other new show, The Lincoln Lawyer. It will be interesting to see how the two storylines might cross over in these new, parallel TV series.
Bosch Season 8 Release Date
The Bosch spin-off will be produced by Bastin’s new company, Fabel Entertainment. While a release date hasn’t been announced, filming on the new series is scheduled to begin later this year. So fans of the series can expect to see more of Bosch soon after the season 7 finale.
