Logan Paul has made headlines recently due to his upcoming fight against boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr, and ahead of the fight, the YouTuber decided to host heavyweight GOAT Mike Tyson on his podcast.

For context, Tyson is arguably the greatest heavyweight knockout artist of all time. Fighting in what’s still known as the golden era of heavyweight boxing, Tyson compiled an impressive 50 wins in the ring. What’s even more amazing is that, out of his 50 wins, Tyson knocked out 44 opponents. His penchant for knocking opponents out has made him one of the most memorable boxers ever. Moreover, Mike Tyson, who is now 54 years of age, recently made his return to the ring, fighting on a card alongside Logan’s brother Jake Paul. It seems that after meeting the Paul family, the boxer has built a relationship with the brothers, prompting Logan to invite him on his YouTube podcast, Impaulsive.

In classic Tyson fashion, Mike came on the show and instantly filled the conversation with enjoyable tidbits and lively antics. However, what really seems to have drawn the interest of fans is the fact that the boxer was seen smoking a joint. He also took 4 grams of shrooms. Armed with a concoction of marijuana and hallucinogens, he was ready to educate Paul, via the wisdom he’s gained over his lifetime, as a person and a championship prizefighter. On the podcast, Tyson opened up to Paul about his struggles as a young man and some of the things he’s realized over the course of his life. (see the mushroom excerpt below):

As a boy, Mike Tyson was arrested a whopping 40 times before the age of 12. He was sentenced to three years in prison at the age of 22. He describes his adolescent self as a scared person on the inside, which made him overcompensate to the outside world. When asked about bringing that fear into the ring, Tyson educated Paul. He said that all boxers feel fear. The ones that know how to use it are successful. The heavyweight champ feels that fear isn’t a weakness, and that a boxer should feel fear when stepping into the ring.

Tyson also recaps his time under famed boxing coach Cus D’Amato. He describes the relationship he had with D’Amato, explaining that it evolved from mentorship to feeling like D’Amato was his surrogate father. As his coach, D’Amato would make Tyson feel like “a god”, constantly telling the boxer that he was undefeatable. As a father figure, D’Amato would take care of Tyson, always watching his back and keeping him on track.

That was certainly the case when Tyson was pistol-whipped by former trainer turned boxing promoter Teddy Atlas. D’Amato immediately removed Atlas from his coaching staff, and the relationship with the promoter has been sour ever since. Tyson attributes the atmosphere he experienced under his coach as one that helped to create a changed human being who got in less trouble and focused solely on training. This experience has undoubtedly helped the boxer to overcome many mistakes that he’s made over the years.
