A Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild player found an inventive way of dispatching a Guardian, one of the game’s tougher enemies. A video posted to Reddit shows the player using Link’s Cryonis ability to send the guardian flying to the heavens.

The abilities Link has in Breath of the Wild enable him to be creative and resourceful with the environment, especially during fights. Throughout Link’s journey, the player will have to use runes like Cryonis, Magnesis, and Stasis to manipulate the environment in order to help them complete puzzles or gain the upper hand in a fight. Since the game does not demand players only use one move at a time, gamers have the freedom to develop their own unique fighting styles. Even with his multiple powers, there are moments throughout the game when it is wiser for Link to avoid confrontations rather than rush into them, most notably the ones involving Guardians. These creatures can quickly chase Link down as well as snipe him from a distance using their devastating lasers.

Reddit user Astrosike shared on the Breath of the Wild subreddit a victory they had against a Guardian using a Cryonis glitch that caused the spidery giant to go airborne. While battling at one of the game’s beach regions, Astrosike combined the slow-motion that is triggered by Link drawing his bow-and-arrow with the Cryonis ice-pillars. This glitch caused the Guardian to cartwheel literally out of sight. Where exactly the Guardian ended up is unclear, as it flew so far that it disappeared off of the map. It is popular in this subreddit to utilize the game’s glitches to change how Link moves, but in this case, we see a user affect the movement of an enemy instead.

Like many of the game’s most memorable stunts, this does not appear to be an easily performed maneuver. In the video, the action occurs so rapidly that it can be easy to overlook the technique and timing it must have taken for Astrosike to prepare. This is a testament to Breath of the Wild’s design that combat glitches such as this can be executed without technical or graphical blemishes showing themselves. Even the vanishing of the Guardian at the edge of the map is beautiful, as it appears to be sucked into the sunset as Link watches on from the beach, in victory.

While much is still unknown about the hotly anticipated sequel to Breath of the Wild, it can be assumed from the E3 teaser trailer that players will have new powers to experiment with. While the exact date is unclear, it is being developed for the Nintendo Switch. Until that time, players can expect more goodness from the devoted Breath of the Wild community, including a complete translation into Arabic.
