Call of Duty Modern Warfare Teases Warzone Announcement

Fans are eagerly awaiting the official announcement of the new battle royale for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. After today’s update for Modern Warfare, that reveal may be closer than some fans realize, thanks to a hidden message in-game.

Although the battle royale has not been officially announced at all yet, many anticipate that it will be here soon thanks to multiple leaks and inside sources sharing their intel. The name Call of Duty: Warzone was leaked, and a teaser trailer came alongside the Season 2 drop on February 11, 2020. Now, the classified section that has been in the main menu screen since day one of Season 2 reads “TRANSMISSION INCOMING,” possibly indicating that Infinity Ward is planning on revealing something in the near future.

Many have speculated the exact date as to when Warzone would drop, or at least when information would be shared. PAX East is just a few days away and currently, there are three booths that are assigned to Call of Duty. Two of them are marked as “Modern Warfare,” and one of them is simply “COD.” It’s certainly possible that the “transmission incoming” could be referring to PAX East, and a special announcement is on the way over the next couple of days.

As the date for Warzone creeps closer and closer, more details on the game continue to leak out, including daily challenges and missions, the map size, and ironically players being able to participate in the training mission for the battle royale thanks to accidentally being glitched into the lobby. All of this has just energized the fan-base for the mode, which has caused a balloon-like effect of excitement, but much of that has resulted in players wondering why a “classified” section has been in-game for two weeks with no official word from Infinity Ward for two weeks straight.

The problem for Infinity Ward and Activision is that so much of the game has been leaked and data-mined that the surprise of an official announcement won’t even be as exciting anymore, other than players being hyped to finally be able to play it. In fact, Activision has even issued subpoenas against some of the leakers for their infractions thus far, which has really only proven that the leaks are probably true.

As the fan-base waits for the possible upcoming “transmission,” all they can do is predict the release date for Call of Duty: Warzone together for now. One of the ongoing theories is that the mode may be unlocked first within Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, almost like a beta, and then be a free to play stand-alone title at a later date for all.

The good news is that with this hidden message, fans can rejoice that Infinity Ward has finally broken the silence after two weeks with this newest update. Of course, the question now is how soon this “transmission” will arrive. Fans will certainly be holding their breath with every social media post, with whatever happens at PAX East, and with any possible update over the next couple of weeks. The battle royale genre has taken the industry by storm over the past few years, and if all of the leaks have any truth to them, Call of Duty: Warzone has the opportunity to shake up the genre in special ways.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
