Call of Duty Storage Is Now Too Much For PS4 Says Activision

Activision has warned PlayStation 4 owners that Call of Duty may be too big to install for those with a standard 500 GB hard drive. File sizes for the recent Call of Duty games, like Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War have been particularly large. In fact, it is not unusual for these titles to take up significantly more than 100 GB when all their associated packs and updates are also installed. Add in the battle royale mode Warzone and it becomes clear why this might now be a problem for some players.

The latest content drop for the franchise comes in the form of the Season Two update for both Black Ops Cold War and Warzone. The release has seen some of its major additions leaked and also caused confusion among fans with a mysterious distress signal playing throughout online matches. Some prominent leakers have even suggested that the Verdansk map may be retired in an event in March that will see the multiplayer map destroyed in a nuclear strike.

Activision has issued a warning to PlayStation 4 users about their storage limits with the latest Call of Duty: Warzone Season Two download. According to the publisher, those playing on a standard version of the console with just a 500GB hard drive may have to make space to ensure they can download the content. The latest update comes in at 17 GB but Activision says that this combined with the files and content packs for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War could exceed the available space on the hard drive. Essentially, those who have the two latest games plus the battle royale mode installed with all associated modes and packs will have to expand their storage.

The huge file sizes are not the only problem that Call of Duty players are facing. Warzone has been plagued with several game-breaking bugs and glitches in recent times. One example allowed players to see through walls and detect opposing players via visible highlights, while another exploit allowed players to go invisible. This prompted Raven Software to remove the Armored Royale playlist from the battle royale mode completely.

The ever-increasing file size for the various Call of Duty games is starting to become a major problem. Especially now that some players will actually be unable to have all three releases installed on their PS4 at the same time. Simply deleting and downloading the games again at a later date is also not an elegant solution. After all, internet speeds for most players are still not adequate to allow this sort of behavior.
