Chainsaw Man season 1 has finally been announced – here’s everything that is currently known so far. The Chainsaw Man manga has had explosive success practically since its first release in December 2018, and has only continued to rise in popularity as time has gone on. While the series’ first part concluded in December of 2020, readers have still been clamoring for an anime adaptation – a hope that was answered with the anime’s announcement and trailer.

Chainsaw Man details the life of Denji, a young destitute man who gains the ability to transform into Chainsaw Man after forming a pact with his pet-slash-demon-friend Pochita. Thus he inadvertently begins a life of demon hunting – and subsequently also being hunted by demons, some of whom have powers substantially stronger than his, as demons gain power in this universe based on how much the general populous fear them.

Some of the exact details are still unannounced, but will be updated in this article during the following weeks and months leading up to the show’s release. Here’s everything we know about Chainsaw Man season 1 so far.

Chainsaw Man Season 1 Story

Chainsaw Man’s story details a world somewhat similar to that of Jujutsu Kaisen, in which demons and humans exist on Earth, and in which humans can form pacts in order to gain a devil’s power – though these pacts tend to come at a high cost to the person involved, often requiring body parts or worse in order to gain powers. As the demons all correlate to a fear of some concept, and grow in power based on the fear humans have of this concept, an institution known as the Public Safety Devil Hunters are employed to ensure that no demon grows out of control. However, the hunters have been unable to track down and capture one elusive target – the Gun Devil, who the protagonist Denji is recruited and tasked with finding, alongside a ragtag team.

The shots shown in the Chainsaw Man season 1 trailer make it clear that the anime will be following alongside the famous manga’s storyline, as they reprise many of the series’ most iconic moments. This is especially worth note since Chainsaw Man is notably gory and violent, pulling very few punches when it comes to creating intense fights and high stakes with the deaths of countless characters. This in mind, the fact Chainsaw Man season 1 looks to be borderline identical to the manga should work in its favour – although it also means the series will likely have to be multiple seasons or parts long, as the first part of the manga is 97 chapters long.

Chainsaw Man Season 1 Cast

Chainsaw Man season 1’s cast is as of yet unannounced – potentially because many of them may not have even been cast yet, given the show is very much still under production. However, what is known is that the series is being created by MAPPA, who have also been responsible for popular anime such as Jujutsu Kaisen and Attack on Titan season 4. This in mind, there’s a roster of existing voice talent the company should already have connections with – and countless others no doubt chomping at the bit for a chance to provides the voices for some of the eccentric and memorable cast that the story contains.

Chainsaw Man Season 1 Release Date

Chainsaw Man season 1’s release date is also currently as of yet unannounced – although it’s worth noting that the first season is unlikely to contain all of part one of the manga due to its length, meaning production won’t be as comparatively long. It’s also worth noting that, while MAPPA have proved capable of putting out high-quality animation in a relatively short space of time, Chainsaw Man isn’t the only project being worked on by the studio – as indeed they are also in the process of creating the second half of Attack on Titan season 4, and making the Jujutsu Kaisen film. Though it seems likely the anime will begin releasing towards the end of this year or the start of the next, Chainsaw Man season 1 could appear earlier or later depending on how production is balanced between these projects.
