10 Bad Times at the El Royale (2018)

Chris Hemsworths 10 Greatest Movies (According to Rotten Tomatoes)

Bad Times at the El Royale was one of the most underrated films to release in the last year. The movie is packed with excellent actors and performances. Chris Hemsworth even gets to play a role totally unlike anything else he’s ever portrayed.

He’s definitely more of the villain in this Charles Mansion-esque cult leader performance. The movie is about a group of strangers who all gather at Lake Tahoe’s famous El Royale motel, and each one of them has a dark secret to hide – but then, so does the hotel itself. All anyone wants is a chance at redemption but it won’t be easy.

9 Thor (2011)

Chris Hemsworths 10 Greatest Movies (According to Rotten Tomatoes)

This is the film that introduced us to Thor on the big screen. It gave us the iconic performances of Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Tom Hiddleston as his mischevious foster brother, Loki. While this Thor film wasn’t as well-received as the most recent Thor film, Thor: Ragnarok, it still demands respect from any MCU fan.

Kenneth Branagh is a terrific director with a background in Shakespeare and theater, his excellence at the craft comes across in this movie that often plays out like an elaborate Shakespeare play. Plus we are also introduced to other fan-favorite characters like Jane Foster, who will return to the franchise in Thor: Love and Thunder.

8 Star Trek Into Darkness

Chris Hemsworths 10 Greatest Movies (According to Rotten Tomatoes)

You might be surprised to see this movie on here but Hemsworth does indeed have a small part to play. He is George Kirk, or the father of James Kirk, played by Chris Pine. But his role is pretty tiny and is more of a cameo than anything as his character is dead and can only appear in flashbacks.

Even though Star Trek Into Darkness wasn’t quite as critically acclaimed as its predecessor it still ranks high up on Hemsworth’s Rotten Tomatoes ranking. The movie follows the Starship Enterprise crew trying to take down one man who is responsible for horrible acts of terrorism.

7 Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

Chris Hemsworths 10 Greatest Movies (According to Rotten Tomatoes)

Don’t be shocked that you’re seeing several MCU movies on this list. Even though Hemsworth has been in many movies over the years, he hasn’t had has much luck in non-Marvel properties yet. That said, Avengers: Infinity War gives Hemsworth and his character, Thor, one of his best story arcs in the franchise.

If Endgame is defined as Cap and Tony’s movie, then Infinity War is Thor’s. First, he loses his brother and Heimdall, then he must go on a journey to get a new weapon and no one can forget his show-stopping entrance into the battle at Wakanda or the moment where he almost killed Thanos and got closer than anyone else managed to!

6 Rush (2013)

Chris Hemsworths 10 Greatest Movies (According to Rotten Tomatoes)

Chris Hemsworth is exceptional in the movie Rush where he plays an English playboy named James Hunt who excels at Formula 1 racing. This movie did very well with critics and Hemsworth’s performance was praised by many.

It’s fun to watch him play a movie where the stakes aren’t quite as apocalyptic as they are in the Marvel Universe. Plus it has a great cast with other actors such as Olivia Wilde and Daniel Bruhl joining in on the fun. You can tell Hemsworth was having a great time in this role and you’re a fan of his but haven’t seen this film you should check it out.

5 Cabin in the Woods (2012)

Chris Hemsworths 10 Greatest Movies (According to Rotten Tomatoes)

Cabin in the Woods is one of the best horror movies of the past decade. It has such an original and unique premise that it’s hard not to love. The entire movie is a horror film but it also has many meta moments, too many to count. The plot follows a group of young adults who visit a cabin in the woods.

Each character fits a typical horror archetype such as the virgin, the jock, the stoner, etc. Hemsworth’s character is obviously the jock. What the characters don’t know is they’re all part of an elaborate experiment that has to play out in a certain way to commit a mass sacrifice. It’s a superbly entertaining film.

4 Marvel’s The Avengers (2012)

Chris Hemsworths 10 Greatest Movies (According to Rotten Tomatoes)

The first Avengers movie is always going to rank high on this list because it is still considered one of the best MCU movies, if only because the team-up of the original six Avengers for the first time is truly something special and not to be forgotten.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget how special the Marvel Cinematic Universe truly is but Marvel achieved something that has spanned across a decade and created a multi-layered cinematic universe. That was practically unheard of pre-Avengers, which truly cemented everything they’d been building towards for years together and then evolved from there.

3 Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

Chris Hemsworths 10 Greatest Movies (According to Rotten Tomatoes)

The team-up of Taika Waititi and Chris Hemsworth in Thor: Ragnarok turned out to be movie magic. The movie gave us an incredible story arc for not just Thor, but also Loki, Hulk, and new fan-favorite character, Valkyrie. Waititi’s approach to the Thor movie gave it its own distinct flavor and allowed the actors to do a lot of improvisation.

The finished product is a hilarious movie that gives Thor one of his best character arcs. You can tell Hemsworth had more input on his character in this film than in the past. The combination worked out so well that Waititi will be returning to direct Thor: Love and Thunder along with Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Natalie Portman set to return as well.

2 Star Trek (2009)

Chris Hemsworths 10 Greatest Movies (According to Rotten Tomatoes)

The first Star Trek movie in the live-action trilogy starring Chris Pine is also the one with Hemsworth’s more notable amount of screen time. However, don’t anticipate seeing Hemsworth in another Star Trek movie any time soon.

There were contract disputes behind-the-scenes that apparently made Hemsworth drop out of the fourth film. That said, he does have a few scenes in the first movie shown in the beginning if you’re a big Hemsworth fan and feel the need to ensure you watch his entire filmography. But the movie itself is worth a watch in full, as is the entire Star Trek trilogy.

1 Avengers: Endgame (2019)

The number one movie on this list may be one of the most controversial, at least among fans of the MCU. Critics adored Avengers: Endgame, it has an extremely high score of 94% certified fresh on the review aggregator. However, many fans were not happy with the movie as a whole, but Thor’s storyline, in particular, is extremely divisive.

Many fans were not happy that Hemsworth donned a fat suit and that the writers were making fun of his weight in addition to his depression and mental health issues after losing so much. That said, Thor does get some incredible moments in the movie, especially with Steve Rogers and the unforgettable moment he wields Mjolnir.
