Christine Chiu Interview Dancing With the Stars & Bling Empire

Star of Bling Empire Christine Chiu will be adding an extra sparkle to this season of Dancing With The Stars. The Netflix personality dreamed of competing on the hit ABC competition series since she was a little girl, and now cannot wait to face her fellow celebrities out on the dance floor this coming Monday. Christine was just one of many reality stars announced to compete on season 30 of Dancing With The Stars. Amongst the many others include The Bachelor’s Matt James, WWE superstar and reality TV personality Mike “The Miz” Mizanin, and The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kenya Moore.

ABC leveled up this year’s talent pool with a few more A-list castings, including 21-year-old beauty influencer Olivia Jade and Beverly Hills 90210 alum Brian Austin Green who is currently dating pro dancer Sharna Burgess. Others include Spice Girls’ Mel C, country music star Jimmie Allen, beloved Peloton instructor Cody Rigsby, The Bold Type’s Melora Hardin, NBA athlete Iman Shumpert, The Karate Kid’s Martin Kove, and The Talk’s Amanda Kloots, who used to dance on Broadway and even worked her way to becoming one of the Radio City Rockettes.

Screen Rant: Congratulations on Dancing With The Stars. How are you feeling now that we’re just days away from the premiere?

Christine Chiu: Thank you. It’s so nice to chat with you today. Originally when I found out I was going to be on the cast, I literally was peeing in my pants. I was so excited. I was pinching myself. It was a dream come true. I was whirling and twirling and singing in the rain, happy. But now that we’re just days away, I’m not going to lie, I’m insanely nervous.

Now if I heard correctly, you were actually in the audience of Dancing With The Stars during it’s first season, so what are your thoughts now that you’ve made it to the dance floor for season 30?

Christine Chiu: It’s incredible. I remember being selected online because way back then you had to submit your name and then you would get selected lottery style to get a ticket to sit in the audience so I was so excited that I got picked, and then I was even more excited when I was sitting in the audience watching these beautiful forms of art dancing and prancing in front of me and now that I’m actually a part of it, it’s surreal. It’s like being asked to prom by a crush that you’ve had for 15 years. It’s shocking.

So you’ve always been a fan of the show?

Christine Chiu: Oh my gosh! I’m pretty sure they can find clips of me sitting in the audience multiple times, cheering by myself. Laughing, cheering, crying, all of the emotions, and all of the moods, super fan.

Why did you want to compete on Dancing With The Stars?

Christine Chiu: Dance is my love language. I’ve grown up with a little bit of ballet like every little girl, but as I’ve gotten older, dance was just such a good self expression and I feel happiest and most vulnerable when I dance. My mom passed away last year, and things were happening so fast and I was thinking about how I can process everything and I remember turning on the music one day and just dancing by myself to it and that form of therapy was so effective and fulfilling for me that when Dancing With The Stars asked, it’s a form of happy therapy, and it’s definitely fantasy. What little girl didn’t dream of waking up every morning and having glam and having beautiful costumes designed for you and then not tripping on the dance floor, but dancing with a very handsome, good looking partner and getting twirled around to fun music. I think it’s a dream come true for me and probably for a lot of little girls and I’m so blessed and I feel so fortunate to have lucked out this way. It’s insane.

So would you say this season is a dedication to your mom?

Christine Chiu: It absolutely is. I know my mom is in heaven watching and feeling proud. Even from my courage to get back out there despite some of the troubles I experienced last year and to be free and express myself in a very vulnerable way, I know my mom will be very, very, very proud.

Christine Chiu Interview Dancing With the Stars & Bling Empire

What does the Bling Empire cast think of your Dancing With The Stars participation?

Christine Chiu: I’m sure they’re super excited. Some of them will be in the audience cheering me on for premiere night, and a couple of them are thinking, ‘Christine, are you nuts? Have you not seen the rest of the contestants this year?’ I feel like half the cast is worried for me, like sincerely concerned.

How do you think your dancing skills will measure up with the cast?

Christine Chiu: This was a really tough season. I think almost all of the stars have either extensive professional dance training and/or currently still dancing and performing, so I really need to step it up. I need to put on my A+++ game, say a bunch of prayers, and go to church every day after dance rehearsal.

Though you can’t spill the beans on your partner’s identity, tell us what its like working with him and how he’s helped you learn and perfect your routines.

Christine Chiu: I couldn’t have asked for a better partner. I think he was definitely specifically chosen for my needs and struggles because he’s incredibly patient. He’s able to instruct and teach me in a way that still makes me feel confident about myself, because in the past when I took ballet as a child, I had a difficult relationship with my instructors who were very, very strict and unfortunately used criticism for motivation, and my pro now uses positive affirmations, so even though I look like a disaster, he’s there to encourage me. I mean he has already physically dislocated a rib.

What happened?

Christine Chiu: Old age is what happened to me and pandemic hibernation when you don’t exercise for a good year and a half and I was a little too excited and ambitious. I was pushing for those crazy moves that I’ve watched for so many years on the stage, and he was going along with it, but then you know, my rib snapped.

How will your injury affect you moving forward?

Christine Chiu: Fortunately, he’s such a pro that when we figured out we couldn’t get away with the pain and continuing that move, he switched it up really quickly so we’re good. Now we have a less painful move.

Heading into this journey, what are your ultimate goals for yourself?

Christine Chiu: Because dance is my love language and my form of expression, and my outlet, and my release, I know it sounds silly, but I just want to dance like there’s no tomorrow. I want to let it all out. I want to let every emotion out, whether it’s happiness and giddiness, which I definitely let out a lot of this past week out of disbelief that I’m on my dream show, but also maybe just share stories and journeys that I’ve been through in hopes that it can encourage others.
